tummy tuck with my hyster

Calling all tummy tuck sisters!

How did you bring this up with your gyn/onc? I'm not totally sure I want to go this route, but I would like to talk with a plastic surgeon and obviously then I should talk with one that he works with, etc. so it can be done at the same time.
I keep thinking that this guy takes care of women all day long who are deathly ill and when I stroll in and tell him I'm worried about this tummy flab he's going to lose it.
HOW DO YOU BRING THIS UP??????

Would you do it again?

I'm so confused about the whole thing. I'm trying to improve my eating habits now, so that when the time comes from surgery, my body is at a weight that it will stay at. Whether that will be "thin" or not, I don't know. Does it matter? I can have my tummy tucked to match the rest of my body no matter what size I am, right?

I am about a size 14, I think. I have clothes in size 12-16 depending on the manufacturer, so I'm thinking that makes me about a solid 14! I think I will probably lose enough pounds or inches that I settle in at a 12 before surgery, but I'm not sure. THis is so difficult for me as I am recovering from an eating disorder. It is constantly reinforcecd that I should not be focusing on my body weight, but how do I make this decision without doing that? I don't even own a scale anymore.

If any sisters out there have some wise words, I need to hear them!
Thanks in advance!

((( Jo )))

Sweetie, don't be embarrased to talk to your dr about this. He's supposed to be there for you. I'm sure that he's heard this question (& lots more ) before and will again.

I hear you about having all the different sizes of clothes - I have the same problem. Some are sooo comfortable and others NOT!

Best wishes.

It is not uncommon to have a tt along with a hysterectomy. In fact, if you start visiting the tt websites, they often mention that the surgery is done in conjuction with hysterectomy.

In my case, the doctor simply stated matter-of-factly that they would do one along with my surgery. Of course, I'm overweight, so I'm having a different surgery.

You are not the alone in asking for this surgery, so just go ahead and ask. If you're not a good candidate for it, the plastic surgeon will tell you that.

Good luck!

Just ask!! That's what I did and I don't regret it for one second. I have always wanted to have a tummy tuck and when I found out I needed a TAH - I figured what the heck. It's the best decision I ever made. I am so pleased with my belly - and I'm only 6 weeks out so the true results aren't even evident yet!

Go for it!!

I, too, am doing this on the 16th of this month. I would call the doctor's office, tell them that you are thinking of it, and can they recommend someone that the doctor has worked with in the past. I went from a referral from my OB...makes it nice that they have worked together before.

Good luck!

tummy tuck with my hyster

I am 10 months PO from my TVH/FTT *full tummy tuck*. I first brought the idea up with my GYN who said "Oh you are one of my skinny patients. Why would you want to do that." But once he knew I was serious about getting the *bread dough skin* removed he refered me to a fine PS who was directly up stairs.

I had looked into a TT a few years ealier but could not justify the money or recovery time. That doctor had a big fancy office.

Once I realized I was going to be laid up for six weeks recovering from my TVH I knew it was now or never. The PS I went with had a normal looking doctors office. But he was the best!!! You can't tell from the fountain in the waiting room. Go with who you are comfortable with.

I am so happy I had these surgeries together. One recovery time. I tell my DH all the time how lucky I feel to have had this done. I feel so much better about myself. I am not sure if it is because I look better or because I don't have to worry about "accidents" in public anymore. What ever it is I love it.

Good luck! Be sure to bring this up with your doc if it is really something you want to do. These surgeries are combined all the time.

Just a piece of advice for you all...make sure you call your insurance company about this!

I just found out a little while ago that mine is going to be covered completely. I am still in shock and waiting on them to call back and say "April Fool's!"

Laura

*Oh...and I agree with S.Ann...make sure you go with someone you are comfortable with. My PS has a normal office with normal furniture, etc...nothing splashy!

Yes that is true. Some times you can get your insurance to cover. Mine didn't. But I saved a ton of money. Insurance covered the OR, the hospital stay, the anesthesia. I paid $3000 for everything. The TT alone would have cost $5500. The TVH alone would have been $1500 because of my co-pay. So I think I got a great deal.

Don't get me wrong. $3000 is a lot of money for us. But my DH said he knew it was something I always wanted, *since my 11lb son did a number on my belly* and he didn't care how much it cost. Is that a sweetie or what!

If you can get a credit card with zero intrest for six months....that is a good way to pay for the extra cost.

tummy tuck with my hyster

I am two weeks post op and I was having a TAH/BSO so I figured what the heck I mid as well have the total Abdominoplasty at the same time. My Gyn recommended a PS Doc and they coordinated with eachother for surgery which was great. I did end up having some liposuction on my flanks, thighs and hips. I was also a size 12 or 14 before surgery. I am glad that I did both of them now together because I work full time and I could not afford to take time off twice-BUT please be prepared that a tummy tuck is the most painful surgery that a PS Doc does and be prepared that the first 4-7 days are a real B----. I was not prepared for that much pain and discomfort-BUT like I said I would do it again but I wish that I would have known that it was going to be that uncomfortable. I just felt like I was a little bit mislead by the PS Doc and I DO think that this was more painful than if I would have just had the hyst. Good luck whatever you do. Oh YEA and if you do it DO the FULL abdominoplasty--if you're going to do it-DO it right. THe Lipo was not painful just feels like bruising--I was really surprised that it didn't hurt more-but I am so glad that I did that too-I finally have the thighs that I worked to have and never did. WOOOHOOO

tummy tuck with my hyster

Hi, Everyone,
thanks so much for your input and encouragement. I'm just going to say it at my next appointment. I'm thinking of having a tummy tuck. There, that wasn't hard. Just say it and nothing bad will happen! :O)

Winesampler, you sound to be approximately the same size I am (or you were anyway) - what size did you end up in? Did you lose weight or anything prior to surgery?
I'm happy to hear you would do it again, despite the pain and discomfort in the beginning. I need to talk with dh some more about it and see what he thinks. His first response was, "sure,. OK.". But I don't know if he just thought it was a fleeting impulse or what!

I really appreciate hearing from those sisters that have traveled this road and are about to travel it. Please keep the advice coming!
Thanks.
Jo
