Surgery postponed again... (**&* blood tests :(
I received a call from my surgeon today. Together we decided to go with his gut feeling and postpone surgery yet again. It was originally scheduled for 07/26 and preop blood test revealed a 2.1 white blood count. I had neupogen 480 therapy for 6 days and the blood count soared to 15.4. Surgery was again scheduled for 08/12. However on Monday when I went to the hematologist for a WBC recheck, it was back down to a 1.8 (lower than when I started the neupogen).
After discussing the situation with the surgeon, he suggested to hold off on the TAH/BSO and take a more conservative route since my blood is compromised. Now its more transvaginal ultrasounds, more CA125s that my insurance won't cover and an endometrial biopsy. In the surgeon's words, the potentially life-threatening possibility of infection outweighs the possible cancer concerns at the moment.
I feel completely out of control. Has anyone had a problem like this? What should I expect from the biopsy? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get off this **%#! roller coaster of emotions? On again, off again surgery......
It is so hard to get everyone ready at work for me to be gone and then tell everyone that the surgery is cancelled. I got the strangest looks when I had to tell them that the surgeon felt that my medical condition was severe enough to postpone surgery. I cannot remember ever taking a sick day and never have had a cold, etc. since working there. People look at me like I have been making everything up.
I hope I don't come across as whining. Many others are dealing with many harder issues, but I have no one to talk to that may understand.
Thanks for allowing me to vent....

Please vent, it has to be very frustrating for you the on again off again. I too have been venting and complaining the last couple days and have gotten great support from the other sisters. I think you are in the right place for the support you need at this time. Hopefully once the doc figures out the why the rest will fall into place and you will be on your way to becoming a princess once again and for the final time. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Hang in there the doc sounds like he knows what he is doing.
God Bless and here's a big from me to you, sounds like you could use one.

Ah sweetie, I'm sorry that you're having to go through all this. I do think that postponing until you're in better health is a good idea.
Try to take a deep breath and not stress ( I know, easier said than done). Don't worry about your co workers, take care of yourself, you're the important one here.
I'll be praying that your drs can figure out what is going on with you and how to correct it.
Hang in there and don't worry about venting here - we'll be here for you. Please keep us updated as you learn more.

I'm so sorry. I had an experience but no where as bad as yours. But I can relate to the work issue. I went out for two weeks to have a D & C, histoscope, uterine palyp removal and a LEEP. All of this made my doctor decide I needed a hyster. I let a few close friends at work know. Cancer....scary enough without people doubting you isn't it? My doctor wouldn't do the surgery for almost two months because of my blood results. White cells and iron count. I didn't understand then and I still don't.
Work....I actually had one person be openly skeptical of what I was going thru. We are sitting around the lunch table and she says "ronni, if you really need this surgery, why isn't it happening sooner? Mary was diagnosed and operated on all within 2 weeks. You have been on and off longer than that"
Whoooaaa did that hurt. It's not their business. I never should have said anything to anyone until I was on my way to the hospital. I know that isn't possible. But I'm still angry. I work in a school so I won't be seeing any of these people until Sept. Hope the hurt and anger softens by then.
Good luck. I hope that everything works out smoothly and you get a date you can keep soon. My thoughts are with you...
ronni
