Trying to not get overwhelmed
OK maybe I'm nuts but I woke up this morning feeling very teary eyed about what is about to happen to me soon. Last night after I got off the internet I did not ask as many questions as I should have because I didn't know what to ask. I have already went to my Doctors office for the you know what your getting into visit and do you have any questions visit and now I'm afraid that because I didnt ask enough questions or didnt' know to ask them maybe things might go wrong....Like this epidural thing I thought that was only for birthing baby's I didn't realize they use it for other things. I dont' even know if they offer this at the hospital I will be going into. I mean would it be a good option for me? I'm not sure I really want that thing stuck in my back...Do they give you the option of not doing it? OR How about the Question about are you keeping your cervix? I'm not quite sure what good it is without your uterus or if it is important to keep it...I mean I always have problems with the annual pap and have to go back for that stupid thing where they tell you that you will feel a slight pressure and it feels like a horse kicked you when they make a snip of a biopsy. Uggghhh I'm soo confused. Also from the looks of it I should have clled the insurance before now and talked to them to make sure it was ok that I have this surgery so now I'm waiting till 9 to call them so I can find out. I mean the doctors office lady that talks with the insurance told me I was good to go and to go ahead and get ready for the surgery. Oh and what about my Kids I just have to explain to them that mom is hurting just a little more than usual and not to bounce on her right?? OK I know that is a small thing being that MIL will be here to take care of them and DH will too. I'm sure they will have much fun and not think of me hurting. Also my doctor prescribed this stuff Provera to take to hopefully stop my cycle since I've been going on for about ummm 3 weeks and 2 days so for and Aunt Flo seems to not want to leave. I know that I'm ranting and raving but really I'm quite upset that I didn't ask these questions to the doctor is it ok to call and ask the nurse or do I need to make another appointment?I mean I go to the Castle in 11 days. Should I just wait till my PreOp at the hospital I know the doctor won't be there but I have to have bloodwork or should I make another appt?

Trying to not get overwhelmed
dearest Kassie,
I am afraid I dont have all the answers to all your questions. But I can offer you and support.
I think maybe you should call up the nurse and try to air the issues with her, she will soon tell you if she can answer, or if you need to book another appointment.
I too have small children, 3 under the age of 5. Ive yet to tell them about my upcoming surgery, they know i get " bad tummy" and i cant always get down to play, or be lept on, and in general they understand this. What to tell them and when has been an issue with me, and some of my dear sdisters have offered words of wisdom. I am going to explain to the children that my tummy hurts bad cause the bits that make babies arent working anymore, and because we arent going to have anymore babies the doctors are going to take them bits away. I will explain that it hurts to have done, and for a little while after i will still be poorly, but that real soon i will be better and able to do all the things i used to do.
I hope you find the answers you so desperatly need, and get well soon

Hey sweetie thank you for your support I'm just really thinking that maybe I need to go back and talk more to the doctor he does these things like every monday and he is really a good doctor and very good bedside manner I just hate to bother him to ask silly questions because I'm nervous. ( I guess that is what you call it)
Anyway
Thanks
Kassie

Kassie Just thought i would add something to my last reply.......something for you to remember......The only stupid/silly question/s are the ones that dont get asked. Take your time, make a list of stuff thats bothering you and take it with you, i do belive theres actually a printable version of a questions list on the website here, try doing a search for it, it may help. Take Care, and best of luck Kells xxxxx

Trying to not get overwhelmed...
ThunderDog,
Call your doctor. That's what he/she is there for. It might take a day or two for them to call you back, but if you have questions, you need to ask them. I have found (with my dr.) that asking questions was very theraputic for me and it settled my nerves quite a bit in the end. 11 days and counting...you and I will both do fine. Part of my problem has been knowing that I won't be in control of this situation once I get to the hospital that Monday morning. You have to trust yourself just as much as you have to trust your doctor. I don't know if what I am saying is making any sense, but it's what in my heart to say. Call your doctor. Let them (whether it's your doctor or his nurse or the receptionist) know that you have questions and you would feel a lot better if you were able to sit with them either on the phone or face to face to discuss your questions. Most doctors will set up a time in their schedule to call you back and give you the time and attention that you deserve. Just be sure to write your questions down before you get on the phone with them...as well as writing down their responses. Even if they aren't the answers that you want, you will definitely feel better knowing that you've done your part.
Also, I had no idea that epidural would be an option for pain relief...who knew?? I still have problems in my back from the epidural I received when I had my son and that was almost 7 years ago. Go figure. Thing is that not every woman is affected the same way by this form of pain management.
I'm going to get me some coffee...maybe I will make more sense after that.
Let me know how it goes
~Eli~
