totally lost in the jungle!

Hello sisters,

I am 9 days post-op and feel mostly great. Well, maybe that's a slight overstatement.

I lost both ovaries and I am taking Estratest. I am getting night sweats and hotflashes. I have a condition called anhydrosis, which means I don't sweat. I DO NOW!!!

What do I do about this? How long do I give this medicine
before thinking its not for me? How do I keep from feeling sick from the estrogen?

I wish I could have kept at least one ovary...

thanks for your help,

k9

Hi!

I'm sorry you're having those symptoms. They aren't pleasant, I know! When you say you feel sick from the Estratest, do you mean you have symptoms other than the hot flashes and night sweats?

Early in recovery it's normal to experience fluctuations in hormone levels. Surgery is a stress, the loss of your ovaries and the depletion of what they had already made, and getting used to a new source of estrogen make for hormone fluctuations. Give things time to settle before making any changes. Patience in the Jungle is a virtue, though not always easy to find!

Try keeping a journal of your symptoms. It can be a good way to see if your symptoms are getting better over time or getting worse. Share that journal with your doctor at your six week checkup (or whenever you're scheduled for a followup). It can help your doctor know what might need a little tweaking.

For future reference, here's a link of symptoms of too much/too little estrogen.

totally lost in the jungle!

Hi there!

Im on estratest hs too, when I first started taking it I was getting naseaous (sp) alot but it subsided after a few weeks. THe hot flashes are far and few now not sure how long I'll stay on it, very confused about hrt. I've been on this medicine for 10 weeks now my OB suggest at about mid Oct to try going every other day in taking my meds to see how I do with everything and slowly ween off it if I can if not she said not to worry and try again later.

I'm definetly lost in this jungle!
