New to this area, what happens if you don't take hormones?

I'm 4 weeks post op and keep wandering when the bad stuff is going to start..I'm over weight so I may have stored estrogen in my fat cells (seems like that should last me...lol)...What does these hot flashes feel like? I'm naturally hot everyone around me stays cold I sleep with a turbo fan in my face literally..My husband went to bed last night with thermal under wear flannel pajama pants a long sleeve thermal shirt socks and his pluto house shoes..Not to mention the two quilts ,comforter and a down duvet on his side of the bed........ I sleep with one blanket and I'm fine so I might not recognize a night sweat or a hot flash if it hit me.......But I have noticed at work I have gotten cold which has never happened..Could I also get chills? and my appetite went south I suppose. I can order lunch at work and it takes all day to eat it..I'm not complaining cause I'm losing weight but is this the reverse of the hormone jungle? I guess I'm asking what do I need the hormones for? what will happen to my body if I don't take any at all?

Hi Shandala! to the Hormone Jungle

Have you done any reading yet from the Hormone Article List in the More Hyster Sisters! drop down menu? Here's a link from that list about HRT, no HRT?. There's another one there about hot flashes. Another good one to read would be the symptom list for too much/too little estrogen.

Yes, cold flashes can be a sign of low estrogen. They were one of the first symptoms I had! It's a weird sensation. Hot flashes are the same, but instead of feeling a wave of chill you'd feel a wave of heat.

This early after your surgery you could easily still be using up stored hormone supplies. It's a good idea now to figure out what your options are in case you and your doctor decide that HRT would be right for you. Here's a link to the entire Hormone Article List. Read up on the articles about estrogen choices for a good understanding about the different products available.

If you have any questions, be sure to post them and we'll try to help answer them.

Happy reading!
