Talking - Payday!! (friday)20 August '04 Payday!! (friday)20 August '04

Good morning ladies

Today is payday (for DH anyway!)
I have been buying so much new school uniform, that I don't know why I don't just give it all to Marks and Spencers
The ribena and vimto links are correct, I guess these people are correct in calling them concentrates. We just call the squash, orange squash etc. I loved the links though about the Great British Favourites, I suppose if I was an ex pat, I would like all my favourites shipped to me, alongside all your yummy sounding goodies, like skinny cow, and loads of things you've mentioned on here, that I should be asking exactly what is that?
Just remembered last night, that DH bought one of those healthy grill thingys. I might buy some steaks this weekend, to grill them
Lunch will be bananas on toast (this weeks lunch for work!)
snacks will be fruit or yoghurt
Dinner will be jacket potato with something OP as a filling
I am munching my way through the fruit bowl, as I type.
I did 30 mins on my ex bike last night, whilst watching a brand new episode of Law and Order. The new ADA that replaced Angie Harmon(?) is a blonde. (You are prob saying we are far behind!)
I find it much easier to use my bike whilst watching TV. The time goes faster.
Anyway, I have waffled enough, Hoping you all have an OP day, and join in The Stepometer challenge!

Payday!! (friday)20 August '04

Good morning Fran and all,

Yep, payday for my DH too--a good thing!

Fran--Okay, you're right you haven't asked about all the American terms we bandy about, but you can any time--you know what they say inquiring minds want to know! I guess some things intrigue us more than others. You can be sure that when I make it to the UK, I will be ordering one of those "lovely squashes"! Don't forget your protein in your OP meals, dear. On Law and Order, yes, that's a bit behind (my DH only watches the reruns on other channels, never the show in prime time--too late for him--so he's about where you are), but they are all new to you, right?

Melissa--Yes, I know I haven't sent you the link yet--I have to peruse my old Budget Travel magazines. I hope to get it to you this weekend. Glad DH worked off his stress--a good thing! I understand what you are saying about the bread--still makes me think all the more reason not to start that habit again. Just MHO, but you know I am prejudiced.

Emily--Have a safe trip south to our area! Don't hesitate to call if you and DD decide you need a break from each other and the planning stuff!

Yoga is done. Contemplating breakfast--may wait until I get to work to eat it. The earlier I get there, the earlier I can leave. That's a good thing even if it's looking stormy for today and tomorrow.

Shower then McDometer and work here I come! Later gators,
Shirley

Morning Girls!

fran, hope you like your new grill. We do chicken & fish on there, plus sliced veggies like zucchini & onion. mmmmmmm. Haven't tried beef. Let us know, will you?

Off to do another college delivery today. Then home in time to take ds out for his birthday dinner. 21! Holy cow, such a week this has been!!! Was it Katie who said I am too young for this? Oh, you are sooooooooooo right, sister!

Breakfast will be yogurt and a nectarine. Lunch will be onthe road, tho I don't know where & what, supper is out but I can do alright at this restaurant, I think. Have a cooler packed with waters for the trip so I'm ready.

Tomorrow I'll cut off UPCs & order my Special K pedometer, I'm really excited about it!

Hope everyone has a great day, can't believe it's Friday already!
Go, Walking Challenge Team, GO!

Hey all

I am sooooooooooooooooooooooo glad it is Friday. I feel positively old today. Oh well. I went from not eating to being a piggy. I am getting back to it Monday. Back to the gym and eating right. I could not get to the gym this week except for one day as the girls were in day camp. SO Monday I am back to my routine and man being Type A I cannot wait. I will get the extra water weight off quick.

Xena yes it was me who said you were to young for that. I think you are only 4 years older than me and I have a 9 and 10 year old. YIKESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. I hope your school drop off goes well today. It is sure going to be a quieter around your house. Our schools dont open til the 7th of September. I think with everything going on my girls are looking forward to school as well.

Shirly I love payday though the money seems to go into the bank and out pretty darn quick.

Fran we used to have lots of Marks and Spencers here in Canada but they have disapeared over the years. How old are you kidlets.

Okay I am offfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff

Thanks for your support everyone

Ta

Katie

Payday!! (friday)20 August '04

Hi gang --

Only a few minutes here as I'm headed to the gym (fitball class today and treadmill time).

Didn't wear my pedometer yesterday, I forgot it when I was walking Brandy and then didn't want to wear it to the gym because yesterday was and I was afraid if I accidentally hit it with a weight -- that would be the end of it.

And I was also afraid it would not record accurately because some of the movements in weight-lifting might record as steps when I don't guess they should really count.

Not going to wear it to the gym today either because of doing fitball class.

Melissa ~~ you asked about Wild Wayne. He's a step-aerobic instructor that is sometimes scheduled to teach class at my gym up here in NY. He goes entirely too fast and I absolutely refuse to take his class (I tried twice earlier in the summer, and two chances was all he gets from me!!) He's actually dangerous -- unsafe. What really gets me is the gals at this gym (and I see the same women here year after year in the summers) have been complaining about him for years, but they keep taking his class!! I guess the head instructor has talked to him about slowing down but he never does. Anyway, on the days he teaches (which isn't often, thank goodness) I do 30 minutes on the elliptical machine and 30 minutes on the treadmill. The only thing he teaches is step.......I'm really grateful that he doesn't teach the yoga/pilates or the weight-lifting or the fitball.......I really can't see zooming thru any of those!!

Trust me, y'all don't want to know what I had for dinner last night...........it was so NOT OP -- I really went overboard. And as for the dessert our friends brought over -- she baked a pumpkin roll -- like a pumpkin cake baked in a jelly roll pan, then spread with a cream cheese and confectioner's sugar topping, and rolled up, and then sliced so the filling appears in spirals.........we ate every little bit of it!!

Ah well -- last night was my Fri nite spluge, a day early this week. So no splurge tonight and back to the real world.

After the gym today I'll get some extra exercise by putting away all the patio furniture for the summer and continuing with the packing and organizing.....maybe give the dogs a bath.....we hit the road on Sunday --

HUGS TO ALL --
Ann

Happy Friday everyone! Just a quick stop in as I have a few things to do, then pack and be on my way! I will try my very best to be OP this weekend, drink water and at least get some walking in. Thank God my DD and her future DH are on a pre-weddimg diet. I did hear what wonderful rerstaurants you have down that way, Shirley, so maybe one night of not so OP might be in order.
Good luck to all you step questers and please everyone have a great BEST OP weekend! See you on Monday...........

Payday!! (friday)20 August '04

Does anyone her remember me??????
Actually, it looks like there are so many new faces, I haven't even "met" a lot of you!!!!

Anyway, this summer has been a whirlwind and I have gotten out of the habit of being on the computer so much. (DH would say that's a GOOD thing! )

I've had pneumonia (twice) and broken my rib (twice), sandwiched in between 2 trips for fun and several that were just necessary (mostly for FIL with cancer in Cincinnati).
I think I posted early in the summer that I hit my WW goal and that is where I have stayed. I had hoped to go down another 5 lb., but with the rib breaking I haven't been able to exercise and that really does me in. Eating hasn't been bad, since I've maintained.

I actually had just started working part-time for WW, but don't know if I'll be able to continue. I just got my dream job - social worker in a nursing home close to my house!!!! At least, I guess I have - my new boss is not real good at following up on details, so I'm still waiting on that. Hopefully, I will still be able to work a few hours a week at WW to keep me on track.

DD's are doing well - they've been in school 2 weeks already!!! One started high school and one started middle school, so it has been quite an experience.

Just wanted to let my BEST buds know I'm still kicking (although some days, just barely!) and I'll try to check in more regularly. I do read posts once a week or so just to try and keep up with everyone. Some things never change - this board is still full of awesome, unique, supportive women! Talk to you all soon!

Good Morning Everyone!
Fran, You've got me ready to try bananas on toast. That will be my breakfast tomorrow morning. (The bananas are still a little green today).
Shirley, Send a little of your stormy weather here. We haven't had rain all month.
Xena, Good luck with College move in #2. And have fun at the 21st birthday party. (You and I are both too young for this, but my baby is 22, my step daughter is almost 28 and my Grandsons are 4 and 2 )
Katie, It's good to see you back and posting each day. How are the Chicks doing?
Ann, One last food fling, then it's back to the land of sun, and swimsuits. That will get you back on track. I hope you'll be able to post once you get back.
Emily, Have a very nice weekend. It should be fun!
Tamara, Hi again! Glad to see you back. Don't be a stranger now.

I did 7780 steps yesterday. I like having this pedometer on. I think it was BSQ that asked, do we walk more just because we know we can count steps. I'm finding myself doing just that. I'll go and get the mail as soon as it comes, knowing full well that the paper will be there any minute. So then I have to walk out and get the paper. It's about 70 steps one way to the mailbox/paperbox so I get in extras there. Every little bit helps.
Today I'm taking the neighbors dog out for a noon walk. He's not use to being there all day without being let out, so I told them I'd be happy to take him for a walk. He's little though, so it will only be a short walk in comparison to mine and Chevy's. But I'll walk down there and walk back, so extra steps that way too.
Food is all planned out so I should be able to stay op. The bag of "open" Oreos is still sitting uneaten on the cupboard. If I can stay out of those, I can stay out of anything. I've even got milk in the house, which makes them that much harder.
to everyone! I'll try and check in later. I need to to and get down to the neighbor's soon!

Payday!! (friday)20 August '04

Hi BEST ladies!

I've been lurking rather than posting. Not much going on here anyway.

It rained yesterday and is raining again today. I'm stuck in the house and not loving it. School starts again on Monday and that put me in a sad frame of mind. While so many moms are excited that the kidlets will return to school I always find that I'm going to miss not having them around. DS is excited about the return because he and his best friend from last year are in the same class. His teacher is someone we know already so we're happy about that. I'm sure I will be volunteering once school gets started.

Eating has been OP and I've even been good about water consumption. However, exercise has been poor the last couple of days. I'll get it all back together soon, I'm sure!

Fran, steaks on the grill are always a favorite with me. Yummy!!

Shirley, leaving work early on a Friday was always a goal of mine when I was in the "real" working world!

Xena, have a safe college delivery today! Those moves are tiring!

Katie, your plan for getting back on track sounds great! You can do it!

Ann, the desert you ate sounds really scrumptious! I'm a fan of pumpkin in deserts.

Emily, enjoy that weekend with DD and future SIL. Sounds fun!

Tamara, you've had a busy summer! Welcome back to BEST.

Nancy, you'll get lots of steps with walking 2 dogs. Resisting Oreos must burn up calories somehow, I think! I'd get lots of steps on my pedometer just going to check on them!!

Hello to all who follow today, posters and lurkers alike!

Payday!! (friday)20 August '04

Ok, all you healthy chicks out there, I have a question.

I am a Red Cross blood donor, have been for years. For the past two years I have ate and drank appropriately, exercised regularly and taken a variety of vitamins and minerals on a daily basis (B complex, calcium, magnesium, iron). I went vegetarian in 2002, reintroduced meats to my diet this year after nearly "flunking" the hematocrit test for blood donation. Since I had the hyst, my monthly loss of iron is all gone so it isn't that. I do not "over" exercise. But I have recently failed the Red Cross screening not once but twice.

Any thoughts on how to boost the hematocrit? I wasn't this way two years ago...and I "thought" I was doing all the right things. I've even gained 10 pounds since my last successful donation (the one where the technician said "eat more red meat" when number came back 38%, the minimum for donation) but my number continues to drop. Am waiting on a call from the dr's office, but has anyone else had this problem after losing weight or after a hyst?
