Doseage on 2% testosterone cream. . .

Dr gave me testosterone cream 2% and said it might help my hot flashes. When I picked it up at drugstore no directions. It simply said "use as directed" dr gave me no directions. What are some of you doing? I really don't know what to do with the stuff. One site I read said only use it four days a month to try to keep it as close to what our bodies did before surgery. But how much and where do I apply it?

Doseage on 2% testosterone cream. . .

Hi Mattie: I have just started 10% progesterone cream compounded with 2% testosterone. The pharmacist told me to rub 1 mg. of the cream to the fatty underpart of my arm. Apparently the skin is thin here, but also fatty which is supposed to help the absorption of the cream. This is to be done once a day. My concern is that a number of ladies have indicated that 2% testosterone is a high dose and we may be getting too much? Anyone have thoughts on that? Hope this helps Mattie. Mallie in B.C.

Where I use it.....

My CNP prescribed this too me also and she suggested I rub it on my clitoris. I was shocked when she suggested this and explained it goes right where it is supposed to go. I have been using it for four months now and it works pretty good. My libido shot way up and hot flashes are down. I'm still getting my other hormones tweeked but the testoterone cream seems to be working.

Doseage on 2% testosterone cream. . .

Hi,

I am using Testosterone 2% cream in 40Z. I have read that 2% Testosterone Cream is strong also. When I talked to my compounding pharmacist he said 1/8 of a tsp. would be good. I try to rub it in one of my inner thys. I try to do this in the morning, my problem is I forget. I feel I shoud use it in the morning, to help me "wake up". What do ya think? So I end up rubbing it between my lower arms, I will try my upper arm where there is more fat. My newest Dr., did more blood tests on me today and I will be seeing him the 21st. My impression from our last appt., I think he is thinking about adding compounded DHEA to my Tri-est. He asked me if I ever tried over the counter DHEA, yes I did, 6mg tablet, I broke a 24 mg tablet into 4th's, seemed to help some, but I broke out real bad, so I stopped using it. I need to ask him why he thinks compounded DHEA would be better than adding a compounded Testosterone to my Tri-est. Just some food for thought.

Hi, Mattie (et.al.) -

Mattie, call your doctor and find out how much he wants you to use, and how. Also, speak with your pharmacist for some insight.

I use testosterone ointment 2% every day. Dr. told me to put 1/4 tsp on vulva and inner thighs (1/4 tsp for both combined, not for each). I asked him if I should use it in the evening and he said yes. I don't know what he would have said if I asked to use it in the morning.) I may ask if I should switch to the a.m., since that's when I take my other meds...it would sure make it easier to use it at the same time each day...but I hate to upset the applecart, so to speak, when something is working!

I've been using it since about 11/3 and doing great. It took about 2-3 weeks to take over from the Estratest I'd been on. Both types of testosterone gave me back libido, concentration, memory, and energy. (Though I think I had more on the Estratest.) When I had to go off Estratest because of the Premarin (I'm back on Estrace), I asked to go on natural testosterone to minimize the side effects, and my dr. had no problem with that.

Some people think 1/4 tsp is too much, but for me it's OK. I'd been concerned about hair thinning on top, and getting more peach fuzz on face and shoulders, but DH says it's not really any more than it always has been. My hairdresser said he noticed my hair was thinning a bit on the top, but that may be from the shock of surgery. If it continues, I'll deal with it...but I think it's going to be getting back to normal.

Today I started realizing I'm back to feeling *normal* again, and not out of whack somehow. (I was one of the women who reacted very badly to Premarin - mood swings, night sweats, weight gain - 12# in 3 or 4 weeks, tho some of that may have been from the meethyltestosterone in the Estratest. The problem of changing 2 variables at the same time is that you can't tell which is causing what! I'm also starting to think that perhaps I've been getting overly sensitive about the hair issues - face and scalp-if I were really getting the hirsutism side effect, it would be far more pronounced. The occasional dark hairs on my chin are no more prominent than they ever have been..I've just been so concerned about developing the bad side effects of the testosterone. As for the few darker hairs on my face, they are thinner than the hair on my head --and I've been using a 3x mirror!!! No wonder I've been getting sensitive on the subject. I'm not getting any other masculinizing side effects - deep voice, hair on abdomen, etc. But I'm going to keep watching!

Good luck, and let us know how you are doing.
