Weight Issues

HI all,

I feel the same way as everybody. I went back on my low carb, high veggie diet after my surgery. I lost 1 lb during my recovery. I didn't gain much either which is good.

I need to vent a bit - I went to my diet place today to weigh in. After a few days of sticking to the diet completely I lost 0 lbs. Good b/c I didn't gain, but bad b/c I didn't lose. I'm not on HRT and do not have ovaries.

My diet place is in a grocery store so I went and bought nice salad stuff for dinner. I'm checking out (feeling pretty good b/c this was my first day back at work) and a nice man is working the register. He tells me about his first day at college and I smile like we do in the midwest.

Anyway, he then asks me if it's a boy or girl? What? I replied. He asked if it was a boy or girl and held his stomach. I wasn't thinking fast enough and I said "It's too early to tell". He continues with how excited my husband must be. I feel myself strating to get physically ill. I say, "yes we're very excited" and left the store.

I'm 32 and will never be able to have children. I'm 5'3" and 148lbs. I worked out this past weekend and was starting to get my self confidence back. I'm now near tears. My hubby brought me chinese food (I told him my baby was craving it. My baby was also craving a glass of wine.

How does one get over something like this? I laugh it off with my hubby and friends, but I'm so hurt. I feel like my swelly belly is HUGE. I want to crawl back in bed and stay there.

Encouraging words would be helpful. My friend said I should have said, yes and my baby is craving beer and bought a six pack.

Thanks for my venting. My doc said low carb was the way to go as long as you incorporate calcium, fruit and veggies.
Thanks sisters,
Aimee

Weight Issues

Don't get discouraged Aimee! I was working so hard to get the weight off before I ended up in the ER twice in June for bleeding and pain. After that, the pain wouldn't let me hit the gym. I kept trying to eat right, but all the muscle tone I'd developed has turned to slop in the last few weeks.

I'm 3 weeks post op and tried on a dress to attend a wedding on Saturday... it looked great three weeks ago... now I look almost as pregnant as my full term daughter!

DD is not my bio-child. Not having a biological child of my own is a source of grief and loss for me. I don't have trouble with it often, but this last weekend was tough. I feel blessed to have DD and her girls in my life, and will just continue to funnel my maternal feelings into them and young women in my church.

Today I crammed myself into a pair of khakis for work... because I couldn't comfortably button the dress slacks I'd planned on wearing... I'm consoling myself with the thought that when "swelly belly" isn't too swollen, I really do believe my stomach is a little flatter now that my giant uterus with it's fibroids & adeno are GONE!

As soon as I'm cleared to exercise I'll be hitting the gym with even more determination than ever!!! You can do it!!

Hang in there!!!

Aimee please don't be so hard on yourself!

You're still in your recovery period and a lot of that is swelling that will go away.

Don't let people intimidate you and don't let your body image be controlled by how you look right now. It's so easy to get discouraged because we feel like we should be back to our old selves and able to do everything we used to do.

Take it easy on the exercise and watch your diet and just pay those inquisitive folks no mind. I know it's tough, but you really shouldn't have to explain yourself to them and you shouldn't be embarrassed because they made a stupid assumption!

A friend of mine occasionally emails me about having babies and I've been ignoring those comments for the past few months and when he got on chat today and mentioned it again I had to tell him what was going on, just to shut him up. Our reproduction should be no ones business but our own, but somehow the public thinks it is!

I know it's a small consolation that you're not alone and that many others are also struggling with this, but please know that my heart goes out to you and the ache you must feel right now. Take care of yourself and that DH who will go and get you chinese when you're feeling low!

The swelly belly does get better, I never thought it would go away. I had the same experience, my husband was with me when it happened and he just rubbed my belly and agreed. It does get better. What i did so i wouldnt beat myself up emotianally was to go out and buy a whole new set of clothes and money was no object, i needed to look cute with this swelly belly thing and not feel bad or ugly. I bought the cutest and classiest clothes and accepted it and now two months later, ive been totally sticking to 1200 calrorie diet, eating every 2 hours and doing 45 mins of slow walking every nite on my treadmill and to my amazement 10 pounds dropped in 2 weeks. I am 5 1/2 months post op and i havent had swelly belly in the last month, thats why i started the diet and walking, im not killing myself working out and with the 1200 calorie diet im not really starving the way im doing it. In the last 3 months i never thought i would get to this point...but you really will see results, give it time...stop killing yourself, even 3 months post op when i went for walks would end up with swelly belly, so it looks like it will just take time..with the 1200 calorie diet what i do is eat on even hours of the day..at 8am 300 calorie breakfast, at 10am a 100 cal snack, at 12noon 300 calorie lunch, then at 2pm 100 calorie snack, 4pm 300 calorie dinner and then 6pm 100 calorie snack, i try not to eat after 6 and do the treadmill from 630 until 715pm,if i am hungry i will eat at 8pm, usually 100 calorie snack...most budget gourmet, lean cruisine meals are 300 calories, so i just eat those for lunch and dinner...try it, only takes about 2 days to get use to it...and also on the odd hours i drink 16 oz of water...was totally shocked at losing the 10 pounds so quickly and i feel great.....good luck...be patient...

hugs

Thanks for your support. This is why this site is so wonderful. I am now able to laugh about it and mean it. (the chinese food helped).

i will be patient. Even though I'm a type A personality. You gals are great! I would invite you all to my ESTROFEST party I'm having to celebrate my "change" and giving all my girl products to my menstrating friends. Some are pregnant and can't drink so I'll have an extra one for them

You are the best!
Aimee
