I need your help....YESTERDAY!

Ok Ladies..my husband pops on me last night he wants me to vaccum the carpet today. I'm am just 2 weeks post op and I'm not sure I can do this. My house is mostly carpet with the exception of the bathrooms and kitchen. That's alot of carpet, and my instructions from the doc upon discharge was no pelvic movement for 6 weeks. Nothing to be lifted over 10 lbs for 6 weeks. How do I get it across to him that I shouldnt be doing this? I mean I tire easily still, and have had a major back ache since after surgery. My doc prescribed torodol in the hospital with the morophine pump, and it did help, but upon coming home he gave me motrin 600mg....doesn't even touch it. Then last week when I called and told him that it was working and that the pain in the belly was still there he told me to contact my regular PCM doctor. What's up with that? I mean, isn't he the one that did the surgery and shoulnd't he be the one to give me my meds? I don't get it ! Anyway, I'd greatly appreciate what ever answers or advise you can give me.
Thanks
Cindi

NO NO NO NO NO - Hoovering is an abosolute no no. The combined weight of the hoover together with the motions you make controlling it could result in a big problem- you might rip internal stitches, or cause a hernia.

Two weeks post-op, get back in your Jammies and snuggle up on the bed. Don't wash your hair, don't put make up on and be "recovering".

We princesses look okay on the outside, but in the inside, our bodies are hard at work healing - take it really easy now so that your recovery period is shorter in the long term.

Send your husband to Misterhystersisters.com. In there it lists the questions our DH's always ask, and will guide him to help your recovery.

Much Love

Do not vaccum at 2 weeks post op. Just don't. I don't know how you can get your husband to understand - he may just have to sulk about it. I tried to vaccum just a small area of broken glass in the bathroom - just for less than 5 minutes and boy did I feel the pain afterwards. It has something to do with how your body streches and pulls on a vaccum cleaner. Sweeping and mopping are the same.

Don't do it. You should not be vaccuming at two weeks. Tell your husband that that is not possible.

As far as pain meds. My doc only gave me enough for a few days. I went to my PCP for more afterwards.

Take it easy you only get one chance to heal properly.

Yea, prolly not a good idea to be vaccumming that soon!! Get back in bed is right!! Just relax. If it is bothering him that bad, he can do it hisself!!

Take care!!

Here's what I would do.
I would say to him....I don't see a piano tied to your butt, so why don't YOU vacuum?

There is no WAY you should be doing that 2 weeks post op. If you can afford it, why not pay someone to come in and do the heavy cleaning...at least for the next few weeks.

Ok, I have copied and pasted the 'rules' to him....wonder why he can't ask the kids to vaccum, but I guess since I'm home, he thinks I need to do things. I mean, I haven't done the picking up of shoes, or laundry, just would maybe start up a load and have a kid put it in the dryer....but I guess since he thinks I look 'better' that I must be better. I've told him about the backache, and he says nothing.........Sometimes I feel that a guy should go through childbirth one time and maybe possible go through it as a c-section, so then they would know that you need th 6-8 weeks to recover. I'll also be calling my docs office too.......just to make sure he understands!!!!
Thank you all for the wonderful help........

My advice: JUST SAY NO!

You need to follow your Drs. orders to the letter. If you cheat now, you will pay for it. My DH (who really is wonderful) told me in a moment of frustration over our needed-to-be-vacuumed bedroom carpet, that I could be doing it. I looked at him in absolute horror and told him there was no way I was going to hurt myself - HE could do it. Once he settled down, he realized I was right. (I had 3 mos. of restrictions b/c of repairs, so it was pretty frustrating).

I'm sure your husband wants the best for you, so maybe remind him of your Dr's orders. You have lots of yrs. left to do housework - but only one chance to heal properly w/o setbacks or complications. I agree - you should get back in your PJs and rest in bed.

My best to you with your recovery and to your DH for the patience and understanding he is sure to show you.

Wow, that would really make me mad!! I will tell him to let you kick him in is "family jewels" and then hand him the vacuum and say okay go ahead! Please....if guys had to go through a fraction of the pain we go through as woman they would put up the white flag and wait to die.

There is no reason he can't do it or have your kids do it. My 11 yr old has been getting a quick and some times painful lesson in what it takes to run a house. It will be good for her, she will one day have a house to run and needs to know what to do and how to do it.

If possible, set up a consultation with your dr. and make your husband go. For some reason they believe dr.s before us. Good luck and rest!!!!!!!!
