Weight Gain And No Hrt
Hi Everyone:
It's been almost one year since I had a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy along with removing both ovaries and cervix.
I tried Femring last winter and it did not work,so I have been living with no HRT and so far am ok.
The only thing that I can complain about is the weight gain. I have gained almost 20 pounds and am still gaining. I don't have an eating problem, in fact, I may eat once or twice a day.
My breasts have also gotten bigger ( where is this coming from since I have no horomones??
Any suggestions? I feel fat, but people who know me don't notice the change in my weight. I've always been very thin and size 10 clothes, now am up to 14 and soon to be 16..

Have you been to the doctor and had your thyroid checked? An underactive thyroid can cause unexplained weight gain.

Weight Gain And No Hrt
Hi,
I have found exercise helps a whole lot and have to do it at least 3x a week. When we go through menopause our metabolism can change and slow down and not burn calories as we used to and to factor in our age as well.
Diet and exercise has helped me lose and keep it off. I am 55 and wear a size 6. It is not genetic, I have been exercising for many years, but I did notice the weight gain creeping up right after surgery and had to push harder and cut out more sugar and white starches out.
I eat fish, chicken, turkey, no beef. No white flour all whole grain and lots of fruits and vegetables. If I want something sweet I grab an apple or some other fruit. I just don't buy anything to have around the house to get tempted with.
My husband is going on this regime with me and has kept his weight down and has no spare tire, but he definitely has a tendency to get it. He runs 2 days a week, but would do better if he had at least one more day.
My dd at college is whining about where did the weight come from? She now is exercising , walking to every class on campus and watching what she is eating. It is hard to get what they call the "freshman 15 or more" off
The exercise helps hot flashes, insomnia and mood. I miss exercise if I don't do it regularly.
I hope this helps. We women can beat the menopause weight gaining problem, it is not easy, but well worth the effort.

UPDATE ON WEIGHT GAIN
Hi Everyone:
Today is my one-year anniversary!!!!
I had my thyroid hormone level checked and it is normal.
I went for my one-year post-op check up and I weighed myself and gained another 5 pounds, almost 160. I had a PAP and I said what can I do about my weight? The answer was you are getting older.
I have been walking, doing low-impact areobics, watching what I eat, still not losing, just gaining
My 30th high school reunion is this November. I want to lose 20 pounds so I can fit into my clothes. I was 130 pounds and size 10 one year ago.
This weight gain thing is getting me real depressed. I don't want to go out and do things because I don't want anyone to look at me.
Got any suggestions? When I get depressed, I don't eat.

Weight Gain And No Hrt
Hi There,
I to have gained weight since my surgery last November. I have gained 25 pounds, it really bothers me. I walk every day and I have been watching what I eat and still gaining weight. Unfortunately, everyone at my work that has had a hysterectomy has said the same thing, they also have gained weight. My breasts have really grew also, I wish I knew why, no one seems to know. I'm on HRT and don't like the side effects, but, the hot flashes and night sweats are really bad if I don't take my HRT.
Take Care and God BLess~~

Weight Gain And No Hrt
I am probably to new to offer much on this subject. But I gained a large amount of weight in the year prior to my surgery. Nothing I did took it off. I have lost 14 lbs since the surgery and am on the Climara patch .o6.
I have no appetite and I am walking daily. One thing I did learn from previous diets is you have to eat regularly to lose weight.I used to be very bad about skipping meals and almost never ate breakfast. Now I eat small meals throughout the day. Nothing after 7 PM other than water. And I drink gallons of water. In fact other than my coffee in the AM water is my only liquid. I hate tap water so I indulge with bottled spring water. It helps my monitor my intake and makes me feel like it's something other than ordinary water. I guess we can adapt to anything.
I too eat no white starch or sweets. Veggies, apples and melons are my snacks. I also for some reason don't want red meat since my surgery so it's chicken and fish for this girl. They are just easier to digest.
We will see if my early success will continue.
My best to all,
Peggy

Weight Gain And No Hrt
Hi...I haven't gained much weight, but I could tell my body was rareing to go, so I joined Curves. I've only lost a few lbs, but the inches are amazing.
I find that the exercise really helps with the hot flashes. I used to be a walker, but arthritis in my foot has forced me to stop.
As for the bigger boobs...I hear you. What's up with that? I've taken to wearing sports bras as much as possible, hoping that in time, the exercise will reduce them.New bras are expensive and I went up 2 sizes!!!!
Cheers

bigger boobs...bigger everything
georgy....i hear you with the bigger boobs....I have never had big boobs....but now! I am only 11 weeks postop, but can tell a big difference. My dh likes it, though
What about the swelly belly.....I have nothing that fits anymore... it is depressing.
I've started the natural progesterone cream...that's supposed to help with the weight, I've heard. Hopefully in a few weeks or so, I'll be weaned off of the Climara patch...if I can stand it.
I have found that when I eat alot of carbs (including chocolate) I feel worse than usual. I am trying to eat more veggies and fruits too.
I cant stand the wieght gain either!!! I have never been a large person....I don't really want to start now...

Weight Gain And No Hrt
Hi Ladies! I just had to post in response to this thread! I too am unable to take HRT due to a blood clot. I gained 50 lbs. in less than a year after my last surgery (prolapse repair, removed ovaries among other things) In May, I read a book called "No White At Night" by a Dr. Gavin. I have lost a little over 30 lbs. since then and it has been relatively easy. He has three simple rules... 1. you have to eat three meals a day
2. you have to eat a lean protein at every meal ( ie. any lean meat, fish or poultry, low fat cheese, yogurt, peanut butter)
3. don't eat white at night! (no starches, or high carb foods for dinner or in the evening... no matter what color it is... ie. no red potatoes, brown rice, popcorn, desserts etc.) just meat and veggies for dinner.
He also recommends a 1/2 hour of exercise per day...but says it's impossible to depend on exercise alone to control our weight! It's really a simple plan, and since I eat carbs in the morning, I don't crave them later at night like I did on some of the other low carb diets. It's a short easy to read book. I would recommend it.
I was also interested in the larger boobs part of this thread... I usually lose weight there first, but I seem to be more busty now too. Does anyone have any idea why we are experiencing this?! Thanks! Blkisue
