internal stitches - do I know when they have dissolved?

Hello, I have been visiting this wonderful website pre-op and now post-op, many thanks to all for advice and reassurances!! I am now almost 5wks post op (27/07/04) having had a vaginal hysterectomy (leaving ovaries), and recovering very well so far!

I was wondering about the internal stitches used for vaginal hysterectomy, would I know by now if they have come out/dissolved?- I have had dissolvable stitches in the past (non-gyne related) and found that they caused irritations such as itching etc, and I had to have them removed by a doctor. I am experiencing internal itching and discomfort at the moment , and have not noticed any stitches falling out yet. Has anyone experienced problems with their internal stitches?

Thankyou for any advice!
best wishes to everyone on your recovery!

internal stitches - do I know when they have dissolved?

I was checked by my doctor a couple of times after surgery, each time she could see the stitches. During my six week check she observed one stitch still hanging on. She told me I would probably notice a purple string when I wiped after using the toilet.
Well, she was right, I guess the other stitches disolved.

internal stitches - do I know when they have dissolved?

My doc told me that my small amounts of bleeding about 1-2 weeks ago were my stitches dissolving.
They told me that is normal to happen when the stitches begin to dissolve...maybe something you can watch for to know they are dissolving.
