Emergency surgery almost 1 year later....

Good morning ladies!

I had surgery on Thurs night since I could not take the pain anymore and could not wait another week til my scheduled surgery was. I was going to have my only ovary removed since I thought it was the problem. I had breast tenderness, pain in my lower back really bad and pain on the left side where my ovary was. My 45 min surgery ended up 2 hours. Anyway, it wasn't my ovary that was causing the pain. My bowel was stuck to my bladder by adhesions and they were all over my pelvic region and my back. The reason for the back pain was that adhesions were wrapped around one of the major muscles in the back. He couldn't even find my ovary and he didn't want to dig around anymore. He said that he doesn't know how I lasted so long in pain. He cleaned all the adhesions out and had to put my bowel back where it should be. He did a lap so I didn't have to be opened up for. I stayed in overnight and came home with a diet of liquids and soft foods like jell-o, pudding, yogurt, etc. He want my bowel to stay "quiet" for a week while it heals. In one breath he want me to gain weight and the next to be on liquids. Cna't win there. I told him that I am confrtable at this weight(5'6" & 120lbs). Any suggestions on other foods to eat? Things are getting a little old already and still have 4 days to go. I will see him tomorrow and see when I can start regular foods. I will be scared about the first bm & hope it won't be painful. Right now my bellybutton hurts the most. I do have drainage a little from there and I thinks its from me being on my feet to much. Anyway, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you everyone!

Hi Donna,
So sorry to you had to go thru another surgery, but I know you will feel lots better soon. I had a TAH in June 2000 - kept my ovaries. Had the surgery due to endo. Within 2 yrs the pain started back so the Dr put me on the pill to stop the endo. The end of May this year I started having lots of pain and we decided on surgery to take out my ovaries. Like you I had bad adhesions - he said the surgery lasted a lot longer due to that. Before the surgery I had been having lower back pain and had been to my PCP about that - he thought it was a my disc and put me on vioxx. Since my surgery I have not had the lower back pain - thank goodness. I was afraid of how I was going to get out of bed and just walk w/the back pain. So far it hasn't come back :bgrin
In the food dept - have you tried different kinds of yogurt - I like the whipped kind. Not much help here
Take care and take it easy.

I don't know if ice cream, sorbet, or some baby foods might be a nice change for you. Some soups might be okay if there are no solids in them (or if you puree the soups in a blender first). I'd stay away from tomato soup if it were me, but that's because it's too acid for me.

I hope you start feeling much better soon! What an ordeal you've had.

What about a drink like Ensure that comes in many flavors? Please ask your doctor. You should have been given very specific guidelines for bowel rest. If not, try searching on line for bowel rest diet.

Hope you find something yummy that you can eat safely.
