you should discuss all anesthesia options with the Dr as he/she is the only person qualified to explain to you all the pro's can con's regarding the different methods of anesthesia thats used during hysterectomy.

Do you have to get an epidural???????

There are many options avail. for anesthesia. This is an issue to be discussed with the "A" man/woman!

Personally, I had TAH/BSO and I had general anesthesia. I have never had an epidural. I am a labor nurse and I have assisted with it many times---just seeing the procedure made me queezy about one! But they are very effective and many ladies prefer them!

If you have not had the opportunity to talk to your surgeon about anesthesia, do so before the time comes!!! Together y'all should be able to come up with a plan that best suits you!

's,
Ronda

Please help us out by going to your CONTROL PANEL and EDIT your PROFILE, adding your surgery date!!! This will add you to our calander and you will be included in the BEST WISHES thread for that date! It also helps members know how far PRE/POST-OP you are, ensuring that proper advise can be given for the amt. of days post-op you are! Thanks for your cooperation in this!!!

Do you have to get an epidural???????

I dont think you "have" to do anything as far as anesthesia goes. I had a TAH and my anesthesthesiologist was very pro epidural for post op pain relief. I just wasnt interested. I had had 2 c sections and I wanted demoral shots---that worked for me in the past. You are the patient most things are your choice. You will have an opportunity to talk to the anesthesiologist before the surgery---let him know what you want.

Thank you ladies for your input I really appreciate it. I just didnt know if it was standard procedure to have it done. Its nice to know that I have an option. I would definately rather be totally knocked out. Good luck with all your surgeries! Hope yall have a nice recovery!

Do you have to get an epidural???????

I'm anxious for my doctor talks to me about the anesthesia also. I do hope they give us an option...I too would rather be knocked out cold. Well, I went to my primary yesterday for my physical release forms...today ekg and blood work...can't wait to be on the better side of this.

Hugs galore,

Mich

Do you have to get an epidural???????

I'm scheduled for a LAVH on 9/13 and am opting for the epidural. I choose this because: 1) up and about quicker, 2) no tube down throat and 3) want to be aware of what is going on even though I'll still have the "twilight". I had the epi with the delivery of my 2 kids and had no issues.

Good luck to you. We'll soon be on the other side.

Do you have to get an epidural???????

Good going Connie...if I was as brave as you about the whole needle in the spine thing, I would want it for all the same reasons you pointed out...except maybe the knowing what was going on one. I figure if I'm out cold, it'll feel like no time at all...if I were awake, I would be nervous and feel likes it's taking forever. Im pretty hard to pain, so if they can give me general and then a shot of demerol I should be alright once I get to the better side. Does everyone have a meeting with their anesthsiologist? I haven't heard anything from my doc about it yet.

Hugs and Blessings ladies,

Mich
