I went swimming!

Big deal, huh! I went swimming today for 45 minutes! I'm just over 4 weeks postop from a vaginal hysterectomy and my gyn surgeon okayed me to go swimming at 3 weeks.

With back-to-school and other things going on, today was the first day I insisted on making it a point to start swimming again for exercise. What fun it was! YEAH not to just have to walk *ha ha*. I used to walk laps around the pool, not in the pool, so after 4 weeks it was such a treat to actually dip in! Our dogs (who love the pool and retrieving the ball) were even more excited....so excited they were doggy-dancing when they saw me get my swimsuit on!

After the swim I felt great...like I'd had a moderate dose of aerobic exercise, but very gentle exercise. I've lost 7 pounds so far since surgery just by walking and ??? and I'm really hoping the swimming will help me return to my pre-fibroid weight. Not to mention that the water and the SUN felt soooo good!

I know restrictions on swimming varying greatly between types of hysterectomies and each individual patient, so please don't go swimming without asking your surgeon/doctor. I just had to share my non-walking fun

I went swimming!

That sounds great! May God continue to bless you with recovery days such as this was.
I am 1 wk. post-op and would love to go back to the YMCA water aerobics class I enjoy. Having had abdominal surgery Dr. says no! I think floating around in warm water would feel heavenly about now.
Best wishes for a continued speedy recovery.

I went swimming!

Wow! Good for you!

I wish I could dip in the pool.

I am almost 2 weeks post op (will be Monday) and I called to see if I could get in the pool and float around and the dr. said NO!

Can't be submerged in water until I've gotten the "all clear" and I can't get on an off of a raft yet he said.

Oh well.

I do know what you mean about the sun feeling good though. It's amazing how refreshing and uplifting that can feel.

I love hearing about your puppies being excited! That's too cute!! I love the doggie dance! ((hugs))

I went swimming!

Does anyone know why some dr.'s forbid bathing/swimming while others may not.....is it because of concern for infection?? I had tah/bso and I am approaching the 5wk mark and I'm still not allowed to bath/swim....such a bummer especially since I have a pool.....it's one of my most fave things to do...float...it's so relaxing!!! Can't wait to get the all clear sign and hopefully before the weather starts turning so I can get some pool time in. Those of you able to swim, float, etc.....enjoy!!!

I went swimming!

I just realized that my original post may well have been offensive or disheartening to many of you who are unable to swim yet. Your responses were so kind and I didn't deserve it!

I've been overweight since the alien fibroids invaded my body and I'm anxious to exercise. That, together with doing anything other than walking, was so exciting I wrote the post before I even thought about it!

Please forgive me. I was stupid!

Love and speedy recoveries to all of you!

Gail,
You weren't offensive at all. It is great to think of the enjoyable things we all can do again after recovery.
There is pleasure in the image of you and your dogs frolicing in the water and sunshine!
Keep up the great progress and be proud of it.
God bless you always,
