nifty household tool

I've been having a hard time getting out of the bed, since surgery.

I thought about the rope idea to pull myself up but don't have anything solid enough to anchor to. Then last night, I thought about pushing instead of pulling.

My bed is in a corner, so I thought if I only had a pole or board, I could plant one end against the wall and push to kinda roll me onto my side. But such a pole would need to be lightweight.

I've been using one of those Swiffer-like mop poles. It seems to really work well. It's lightweight and since it has the end with the flat base it won't slide when placed on the wall. I grip the other end and push from it.

Bonus, I also use it as a temporary cane. Yeah, I know it isn't rated for that kind of use, but for me it seems ok, so far. And when I'm trying to push myself forward enough to get out of the recliner, I use that pole to give me that little extra leverage.

It's helped my quite a bit. I never thought a mop pole could be so useful!
