I had this image...then it passed...
I'm less than 48 hours away and while sitting watching a DVD with my honey, I had this thought and image pop into my head: the voice said, "You don't have to do this...you don't have to do ANYTHING!" Then I saw myself packing the car and just driving west, trying to get ANYWHERE other than to the hospital on Tuesday morning...
It was a fleeting thing...sort of like a little "panic moment"...it passed within minutes...a weird experience.
Wonder how I'll be driving in Tuesday morning? Any body ever pass out from fright?

Yep......I remember crying a few days before and swearing I will call the dr. the next day to cancel. I didn't cancel it but I remember it well. When the morning of surgery arived, I was focused and ready to go in. I wasn't looking forward to any of it but I knew it was my only way out of the pain I was in.

It is a bit overwhelming. I dreamed a couple of days before sx, that the surgeon forgot about me in preop and all my family was lieing in hospitals beds waiting with me for me turn. The dread of having to start all over again with fasting and enema overtook the fear of the recovery. Which, by the way, was almost too easy for me, didn't get any of the pampering I thought I would require.
I read many threads from sisters stating that the waiting is the worse part of the sx. You will find this to be soooo true. Afterwards the hardest part is the inactivity while you heal.
Please, have faith in you dr and you will come out of this a stronger and healthier sister.
HUGS !!!

Deb and the rest of my sisters,
I thought of running away and changing my my mind about the surgery lots of times, still do get a twinge every now and then, but then I think how much I would be so sorry after all this anguish in waiting and to have to go through all of this again would be too much for me to handle. some of the sisters have said how their surgeries got cancelled for one reason or another and my heart goes out to them. I'd rather go through the surgery, heal, by the Grace of God have a good recovery, than to go through misery month after month after month after month. I've never fainted from fear before, but I have fainted during past periods. Having someone else drive you to the hospital is a good idea Deb...you may end up taking a short cut to Miami....not a good choice...their having to deal with too many hurricanes right now..LOL
Luv & Hugs,
Mich

Hey Deb,
I found that from the moment I started bowel prep to the minute before the surgery, I was getting calmer and calmer. I think because that for me was the dividing line for when I could possibly back out and run away. There was no way I was gonna do that nasty bowel prep and then back out of the surgery.
When you do get to the hospital, ask for the drugs to relax you as soon as you can, and ask for a warming blanket as well. I found that nice warm blankie to be very comforting, even though I wasn't really even cold while I was waiting.
Good luck with your surgery.

Hi Deb-
From the day I found out my surgery date, to A couple of days before, I was scared to death. The only reason I didn't cancel was my kids. But each day I thought about cancelling And wanted to a little more.
I'm SO GLAD that I didn't! This is the best thing I've done in a long time. I'm constantly amazed each day at how much better I feel. The gas and The inactivty is the worst part. Ihave already did too much a couple of times because I feel like I can. Plus, it drives me nuts to just sit and look at the things that I want done.
You will be fine! And you won't pass out on the way to hosp., just keep thinking of all the problems you'll be leaving behind!
Blessings-
Amber
