Doc says fibroids dont cause any pain!!!

Had my preop today for the second time. Was only the third time that I have seen or talked to my docter. Had to get some pain pills for my trip (12 hours driving each way and you know how that feels!). DH will be driving. Anyway he comes out and tells me that fibroids dont cause any pain and that there must be something else wrong with me! Please girls, reassure me that this isnt so and that I will truly feel better after surgery. I cant live like this and have sunk so deep into this financialy that He has put some scare into me as to whether it will truly be better.

I'm no doctor, but the stuff I've read says that they can cause pain by at least these things:

If it's a fibroid on a stem the stem can twist which is painful.

If the fibroid is large it can press against your colon which can give you constipation which will give you abdominal pain if it's bad enough.

Plus I'm pretty sure I read that increasingly painful menstruation was a basic symptom of fibroids.

Doc says fibroids dont cause any pain!!!

I'm not a doc either, but good grief I've been in pain for years with these things. They grow, they bleed, they cause great pain. I've had at least 4 doctors in 8 years telling me to get rid of the fibroids. I've been very much of a hard head---trying to be a strong woman. But, I guess the pain was really not getting to me as much then. Well, things have certainly changed for the worse. The pain is so intense for me now and these "aliens" laugh at my pain meds.

Please don't wait until the pain gets this bad. I waited and I wished I had not.

Also, you may want to get another doc's opinion. I got several.

Take care.

I too have fibroids which have been the cause of painful, lengthy periods, horrible bladder pressure...which can be very uncomfortable and lower back pain. Maybe the fibroids themselves arent painful, but they can bring pain to other areas they interfere with. Thats why I tend to like a female OBGYN since they are more in tune to a womans female problems....just my opinion. good Luck and I truly sympathize with your "pain".

My fibroid is the size of a grapefruit and has outgrown it's blood supply. It is dying off and causing SEVERE pain. I have been told by my doctor that it is the problem, so I know first hand that they can cause a lot of pain!

Doc says fibroids dont cause any pain!!!

Your doctor has evidentially never had fibroids! One of mine twisted around on it's stalk on the outside of my uterus a couple of weeks before surgery and died. I was in horrific pain for the whole two weeks and was popping Darvocet like Tic Tacs.

Yes, fibroids can cause pain. And hopefully, once you have surgery, you'll get some relief.

I had two fibroids and let me tell you--I was in pain. I watched an Oprah show last week and they had a doctor on. The doctor showed a fibroid--taken from a cadaver. It was the size of a grapefruit. The doctor went on to say that fibroids are usually benign, but they can cause tremendous pain, therefore should be removed.

No pain!! Please!!! I have 3 fibroids, 2 the size of grapefruits and one that is 11 inches long and 4 inches thick. They constantly put pressure on my pelvic floor, bladder and back, and my periods are horrific. If these things do not constitute pain, then I don't know what does!

You are far from alone in your suffering. I'm sorry that your doctor was so invalidating of your pain. Take care and know that we understand what you are going through. Good luck with your surgery and let us know how you are doing when you feel up to it.

Cheers,
Angela
