16 days post-op & a few questions.

I had a TAH 16 days ago and have a few questions that I need help with,

1. When does the spotting stop? I have lost my ovaries and have a bit of bleeding(red blood) but usually when I go to the toilet, It isnt in my urine but just seems to flow when I sit on the loo.

2.. After getting rid of one cycle when can I get on my push-bike?

3. I have disolvable stitches, some which are still there, especially the big knots at the end, any idea when they should be gone?

4. I saw my doc 6 days ago for my HRT,he says I dont need to see him again for a check up unless I have any problems. So how am I supposed to know when I am fit for work. He says I can extend my sick note but I have a demanding quite physical job. The temptation to return to work is there as I am getting so bored at home. I have full sick pay so there are no financial issues around me staying off.

Ladies your help is appreciated on these matters.

Oh, and when will these bowel pains go away, the cramps are awful!!

As for staying home - the norm is 4-8 weeks of being bored. I stayed home for 4 weeks & went nuts - I even had my boss drop by & bring me some work!

How long is your sick note for?

As for exercise - although I didn't have a TAH, my guidelines were to walk every day (I walked about 30 min. a day) and then by week 6 I was allowed to hit the gym again but restricted - no squats, no heavy weights, no jumping. I wasn't able to do my usual exercises until 3 months later.

As for the blood - could it be hemmoroids? It may also be granulation. Did you tell your doctor about the bleeding?

Hi Bubbleicious!

I don't have any answers for you, but I thought I'd bump your post back to the top so maybe someone who knows the answers will see it. I'm also curious of the answers myself. I have surgery Sept 23rd.

Good luck!

16 days post-op & a few questions.

Hi There, Bubblecious!

DOn't think I can answer all of your questions...but here are some of my thoughts.

First of all 16 days out...you're still a princess! I don't believe anyone has to even consider working till 6 weeks after a TAH. At my 6 week check the Dr. even suggested I wait another week or two. Won't you be needing or having a 6 week intrnal exam? That seems the norm....hmm. May want to ask about that in awhile.

Bored or not...ret, get some movies, read a book yu've always wanted to! I even painted my nails! Now that was a rarity!

Those pesky knots hung around on me for a good four weeks or so! Finally one day after a shower...they just kind of "rubbed" off! Don't pull!! They will do as intended and disolve!

Bowels are very miserable. I encourage you to do all you can to keep them moving! The emptier the less pressure and the better you'll feel! I am now...almost 10 weeks post-op and my gastro Dr. explained that for me anyway, the surgery SLOWED down my entire digestive track. It just takes time for everything to work it's way back to normal.

I believe they pull everything out...tap dance on our "innards" then put it all back together! YIKES!

Be careful, take care....it seems to me you're early in your healing!
Best wishes!

Thanx for the reply. My sick note was for one month from 23/08, he said it could be extended over the phone. The bleeding definately isnt from the rectal area.

All of your questions souind like they should be addressed to your Doc. I would call him! You should get them your Doc since each person heals differently.

Did you at least get answers to your questions?? If not maybe a call to your reg. Doc would be in order! Remember you pay them! Doc may say you don't need a check up but I think with your concerns I would be pushing for one anyway! This is YOUR body YOUR health nothing to mess around with!

16 days post-op & a few questions.

Well for your first question i think everyone is different. I bled only in the hospital.

For the second i am a spin instuctor . Don't know if you know what that is but i teach cycling classes. I started out slow at 5 weeks post op. I wasn't teaching but taking class. I started back at teaching my classes 10 weeks post op.

As for returning for work i was out for 7 weeks but i know people who have taken 4-8 weeks off . You know your body don't over do it.

Make sure when you do go back to work that you don't plan any activities afterward because you will be tired and need a nap.

Good luck!
Cindy
