I need a 2nd opinion

Hi Everyone!
I was recently diagnosed with a uterine prolapse, cystocele, and a rectocele during a workup for incontinence. My doctor would like to do a vag hyst to "take care of all my problems at once." I'm looking into getting a 2nd opinion and have a few questions.
Do I get this 2nd opinion with a doctor recommended by the first or with someone I choose myself? I would like to think that I am going to someone who my 1st Dr. thinks is good, and therefore think I should goto the recommended Dr. for the 2nd opinion... but, what if I am being sent to a Dr. that has the same "philosophy" about these things and recommends the same procedure. I know that it may truly be needed, but would like to think that some Dr. will possibly give me more options. I hope this makes sense to you all!! I also worry about just picking a Dr. on my own, what if they are not up to date on the newest procedures out there.
I don't know what to do, I called the recommended Dr. today and can't see him until Nov. Also, I assume that I will have to go through the entire exam again, but they asked that I bring all my records with me. I don't want the Dr. to only base his opinion on what my records say, I want his opinion based on his exam that very day!
If anyone has any guideance for me... please let me know. Thank you for reading my rambling... I appriciate all of your help!

For my second opinion, I asked friends for who they would recommend. for my 3rd opinion, I asked my neighbor, who is also an ob-gyn.

Don't settle for waiting until November. Find some other Dr(s) who can see you before then. When I impressed upon my 2nd & 3rd opinion Drs that I was experiencing a lot of pain & needed surgery & that this was for a 2nd opinion, I got in right away. Maybe I was lucky, or maybe that kind of appeal actually works.

Hi, I agree with Cindybyd. Don't wait until November. Choose your own dr. I have gone for many second and third opinions and haven't been sorry I did. Lately, I had an issue and had three opinons. All were pretty much the same ones, but I feel better knowing that I am doing the right thing. I didn't take my records to any of the other opinions. I also wanted them to formulate their own thoughts on the matter. Part of healing is doing everything you can to make sure you are comfortable with your decisions. Take care, Annie

I saw the last post. I would agree with what she said, with the exceptiont that I DO recommend taking your records. It gives the doc. a full picture of your history. Also, if you've had an ultrasound, it can keep the 2nd & 3rd docs from having to do that again.
