i am having a LAVH in oct and 3 weeks after that, my scrapbooking club is going away for a scrapping gourmet weekend which is going to be awesome. it's about an hour and a half away and i would be able to do as much or as little as i'd like, pamper myself, scrapbook if i want, they even have massages and GOURMET CHOCOLATE! i just wonder what your experiences were, as to whether i am kidding myself thinking i can go to this. i wouldnt be driving. what do you think??

to go or not to go...

I would "play it by ear"...see how you feel and leave it open-ended. Little changes come up...priority is to take care of yourself first...

By 3 weeks you will probably be feeling better, therefor it will be easy to over do.Expect to get tired easily. The whole weekend may be a little much. A short trip to the grocery store even with Dh pushing the cart wore me out. If I was on my feet to long I would start hurting. You only get to heal once so take care of yourself. You will have to listen to what your body is telling you. Some of us heal faster than others. I had an uneventful recovery and was around the 6 week mark before the longer excursions didn't bother me as much.
Take Care!

Since we all recover differently from any of the types of hysts, it really is impossible to predict with 100% certainty if you will be able to go. It may be best just to make "tentative" plans, but see how well you really feel, and check with your doctor shortly before your departure date.

Best Wishes & Many s to You!

I, too, am scheduled for an LAVH on September 21. My dh has a conference scheduled in Tennessee almost three days after my surgery. I really want to go with him, because it's only a 2-hour drive from where we lived from 1995 until 2002.

Anyway, I discussed it with my doctor, and he said it was fine as long as I was in town for two weeks postop. He said things should be fine, although I will likely be tired. I am fortunate, in that after the 5-hour flight plus the 2-hour flight to get to Tennessee, I will have three days of recovering in Marriott hotel without anything to do but rest. Then we'll carry on and visit. Now, the other thing that worked to my benefit is that we will be staying with our former family doctor and his wife who is a PA and my OB/GYN of 7 years will be there too. So, if there is any hint of a complication or infection, I will have access to great and familiar doctors and facilities!

In my case, we needed to make plans well in advance and have already purchased my airline tickets. (Dh's tickets and the hotel are being paid for by the conference). I'm not sure what your situation will be but it's worth speaking to the doctor about it!

Getting out at three weeks may be VERY therapeutic for you, especially with a bunch of girls and lots of options on how much to do (or not to do!)

All you ladies that are planning on flying close to your surgery, be aware that gas bubbles tend to swell at high altitudes. You can go, just take your Gas-X in record quantities before you board that plane. That is the reason some babies cry on planes, they have gas bubbles in their tummies that swell (others are because of their ears, though)...my baby was like that.

Have fun scrapping if you decide to go. It could be a great cure for cabin fever!

First off...I haven't been on this site for some time now (I just celebrated one year since my LAVH)

I must say this though...just be prepared for anything....3 weeks was a difficult period for some reason, and I've heard others say the same. However, for what you're doing, the company and relaxation would be wonderful. Just exercise good judgement!

For ORMT...three days after an LAVH>>>>whoa!!! That's a bit much.

But my biggest advise to be prepared for right after surgery....a shower chair!!!!! You'll be sore standing in the shower, but that hot water feels so good on your body that aches all over! It's a great investment!!!

I wish all you ladies in waiting the best, and hope you all have great adventures if you do go on your trips!

However, the warning to take extra Gas-X for the flight is an excellent - thank you so much!
