post op diet...

Do you have to eat a certain diet after going home? I am getting ready to grocery shop before surgury and want to make sure I have all the right stuff!

Not really a certain diet - you will just want to avoid foods that can make you gassy. For me that was anything with beans! You won't have too much of an appetite the first week, but maybe you are buying for your family. Either way, go for convenience! Stock up on lots of frozen foods that can just be microwaved or put in the oven. They were a life saver for me. Some of the more ambitious ladies I have heard from cooked in advanced and froze their own home cooking - that sounded like too much work for lazy me though.

I read about a post-op soft/bland diet -- it's not specifically for hysterectomy, but for anyone post-op. Gives you blander options. Recommends that you avoid highly spiced stuff -- like smoked meats, garlic, curry, salsa, etc. and veggies like broccoli and green pepper which tend to cause gas...things like that.

Start with smaller helpings so you'll know what you can tolerate. I've also read that some sisters find their tastes change -- they love yogurt pre-op but can't stand it afterwards, etc. Go figure.

Thanks! I agree frozen sounds great! I have to much to do to get to ready for the big day to spend it cooking! Huddy says he will do the cooking for me... we will see...frozen sounds good!
