Remove ovaries

Hi
Again, thanks for all your help. I was wondering if anyone out there could relate to this. My Dr. mentioned possibly only removing 1 ovary with SAH on 12/19. Seems this may be more problems than just having both removed. Has anyone only had 1 ovary removed and if you have-any problems.
I am contemplating just having both removed if one may need to be removed. Any info would be appreciated.

Remove ovaries

Hi Ruby--There have been many discussions here on the matter of whether or not to keep ovaries. It seems that one ovary can handle the job very nicely. Getting the right HRT can be difficult at best...there are no hormones better for you than the ones your own body makes. Below is a link to a previous discussion on whether or not it's beneficial to keep one ovary. It may help you to make up your mind.

Remove ovaries

Hi Ruby,

I was planning to keep both ovaries, and awoke to find that I had kept only my right one...the left one was found to be ruined by adhesions and was "glued" to my uterus, so I didn't really choose. However, 5 months later, I'm so happy that I got to keep the one I did. My Dr. explained that one ovary can do the work of two. After about a month with some hot flashes, they subsided and I felt some PMS symptoms like I had before: My remaining ovary had kicked in.

I was 43 at the time of my hyst, and am 44 now. I had no signs of going into menopause before my hyst. I will be glad to make my own hormones for as long as I can, and am thrilled not to need HRT...I feel GREAT! Even in menopause, ovaries still make a little bit of estrogen. A sister here once said that it is easier to supplement one's own hormones than to replace them totally.

I hope you will make the decision that is best for you!

Linda
