Feeling Too good?!?!
I am feeling wonderful, and am worried that I am feeling too good! I feel like I can walk a mile. I only had my surgery 9 days ago, and it was very bad! I was dismissed from the hospital 6 days ago, so I have been home 3 full days (4 days kindof). I lost 1.5 pints of blood due to a blood clot the size of a base ball that formed in my perinium (sp? butt area). But now, the bruise that was left after they removed the clot (from a second surgery) is almost completely gone. I am feeling fantastic. I get an occasional hot flash, and cry a little too easily. I think it is just an adjustment that will get better. I am worried that I feel too good. Is this normal? Will I hurt myself if I walk too much? I lay down when I get tired, and I drink alot of Cran-Grape juice. I am having normal bowels (alittle painful) and urinate very regularly with no pain. Why on earth am I feeling so incredible after such an ordeal? Should I keep laying around, even if I am bored out of my mind?
Thank you so much for listening to me! Can someone help?

Feeling too good
Wow, Ami, I'm glad I'm not alone. How wonderful that you're feeling so great. I had a rather complex surgery, too, but I am in no pain (I do feel some muscular discomfort when stretching to get out of bed -- my incision is vertical). While my doctor warns about over doing it, I really feel like I can do anything. I had a four-day hospital stay, and only one day at home before I felt like my old self. I am not the least bit fatigued -- no napping here. I haven't even taken a pain pill since I left the hospital. I have walked several miles at a time without hesitation. I don't know that my doctor would approve, but my body has been more than willing to comply. Like you, I question the ability to feel so well so soon after surgery. I guess we should consider ourselves fortunate.
I hope you continue to experience such wellness.

Feeling Too good?!?!
Im glad your feeling so well....I feel the same way...I had a LAVH/BSO 2 weeks ago and other than a little bladder irritation, and a little spotting I feel so wonderful. I almost feel guilty for feeling this good. Im still resting as much as I can. I keep remembering how all the people Ive talked to , telling me if I rush into things....how I would pay for it later, so I make myself slow down. I feel like Im able to go back to work, but I don't want to do anything that will cause me to have a set back, so I am going to stay out for at least the minimum 4 weeks. Im glad your feeling good, and my advice would be to take the advise of all the others and rest, and take it slow.... Lotsa luck to you

Feeling Too good?!?!
Hi Ami,
I'm so glad you and others are doing so well...this is GREAT!
However, please beware! I have been posting like crazy lately to sisters that felt really good until somewhere between 2-3 weeks post-op...then suddenly they feel worse and wonder why. You are not as "recovered" as you may feel.
This is a very common pitfall, and I pray that you will look out for it! Do not do a lot right now...keep resting plenty even if you feel guilty...here's why:
Around 2-3 weeks post-op, you may suddenly start feeling your surgery a lot more. This is because anesthesia is continuing to leave your body, and your stitches will start to dissolve, leaving weakened muscles to take over.
If you keep resting and this happens, you won't "feel" it so much. If you start resuming all normal activities, however, you are in danger of "hitting the wall" like so many sisters here have done. Myself included.
Please take heed and resist the temptation to do too much just yet. This is your ONE chance to heal properly, so make the very best of it!
My very best to you...
Linda

Feeling Too good?!?!
Linda - Thank you for continually posting your warnings! They are starting to sink in, even though I haven't had my hyst yet. I keep finding myself thinking that, well yeah, they *say* 6-8 weeks... but I'm sure I'll be out feeding the horses after a few days, if I go slowly... Then I hear this little HysterSisterly voice in the back of my mind, reminding me that the quickest way to improve is to take it slow. It's the same in guitar playing, and horse training. You'd think I'd learn.

From one Linda to another...
Hi Linda,
I really appreciated your post to me! Just want to comment that you are so fortunate to have found this site BEFORE your surgery, so you have a realistic idea of hyst recovery, even if you don't decide to act accordingly (though something tells me you'll be a good and proper )
I didn't find this site until I was already 3 weeks post-TAH, so I guess I feel a "mission" to warn the sisters about this pitfall, as it is SO easy to fall into! I remember thinking I'd be "good to go" at 3-4 weeks! At least I found the site in time to not feel guilty for continuing to take it easy for a few more weeks!
My very best to you as you prepare for your surgery,
Linda
P.S. By the way, I like your comparison to practicing your guitar!

Feeling So Good!
Glad to hear it! I am now 6 weeks post-op, and the only wisdom I can offer is to try to take it as easy as possible. I too felt INCREDIBLY WELL after my surgery November 3. I (looking back) did WAY TOO MUCH because I felt so good. You can't really do any physical damage (as long as you're not doing anything stupid like climbing a mountain or something), but you can retard your recovery.
So, enjoy your great new body, and pamper yourself as much as you can. I felt better the 2nd week post-op than I did the 5th and 6th. Just be careful and don't be crazy. I know it's easy to overdo cuz you haven't (maybe ever) felt this good! Just try to be smart about how much you do, and resting and drinking lots is a good plan!

not so good today
Today I'm not feeling good. I may have walked too much yesterday (but it was only around the grocery store). I did not push the cart, I did not pick anything up. I did not drive. I was the passenger, and all I did was walk. But today I am feeling it, and I regret it!!! I am hurting really bad today, and I am bleeding more. Today, and until I am told I am healed, I will take it easy, even if I feel too good!!
Thank you for your words of wisdom, I will head them, I promise!
I love you all! Thank you

please please don't be fooled
dear hearts please rest. if you are on pain meds it is masking the pain. if you are not, you are blessed and must take great care to stay that way! it is so so easy to undo all your surgeons delicate work by over activity.please climb back into a lovely cozy spot and enjoy things you love to do.read, paint, write ,work on photo albums, write letters, cross stitch, knit, talk on the phone, watch all the movies that you have wanted to see and have wonderful long naps. I have a sweet card I recieved with a picture of a cat that greatly resembles my own that says, "How wonderful it is to do nothing and then to rest afterwards" Love and joy to you.Lass

And here I thought my organs were velcroed in!
I decided today, 5 days post-TVH, that my organs surely must have been attached by velcro because I haven't had any pain either! I went to a progressive dinner last night and today we did a movie and a trip thru the hardware store. Now the tiredness is seeping in and I am going to heed your wise words, Linda and others, that I should not take this "feelin good" thing to an extreme. I feel bloated but the bowels are normal (thanks to fiber, prune juice and gas-x) and with no abdominal incision, I think I lucked out.
Now I have to jump over to the Hormone Jungle to see what I can learn there. They slapped my first hormone patch on me the day of my release (1 patch per week) and thus far I have noticed ankle edema (water/swelling) and extreme thirst (of course that could be the pain meds.) Please keep sharing your experiences, it's so valuable. I am going to do that scrapbook I have put off doing since July, read a lot, and take it much easier. Your advice got me back to reality. THANK YOU AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS
