Hi all,
I forgot to ask those of you who's had a SAH how long was the incision? My doctor is doing a bikini cut and absent minded me forgot to ask her how long will the cut be? Also, did yours heal nicely?

Hi again!

My incision is 6.25 inches long. It was only supposed to be about 4.5 but my fibroids ended up being much larger than my doc expected. It's also a little off center. It really depends on what your doc is doing in there, some women have smaller ones (4 inches) and others end up cut hip to hip (8 or more inches).

If you want to see photos of it you can go to my online diary (click my WWW by my name on the left) and look at the August entries.

My incision is healing great. They did no external stitches, just closed it with surgi-tape. I'm only six weeks out, but it's healing really well - it's just a long purple line at the moment just at the top of my pubic hairline. (I'll try to post more recent photos on my diary today.)

You might want to discuss your type of incision closure with your doc. My doctor also diagnosed me as making keloid scars (those raised lumpy scars) - most women who have fibroids also have keloids. She said that the "plastic surgery" style closure would prevent a keloid.

Take care.

Thanks so much again Juniper! I'm hoping mine won't be large either. You've been so helpful. :-) I beginning to believe I'm ready for this.......I think. ;-) I keep wafling when I think about it so I'm trying not to think too much. :-)

not too bad

I just got back from the hospital today and my insicion seems about 6". He stapled me but they were removed today and I now have steri- strips there. I was so scared before I went in, but ended up having it done emergency Wednesday morning. I feel so much better now and am glad I did not have to go through the torture of the wait. I had great care. Good luck.

Welcome home Juliafleming! Glad to know you're doing well. Why did you have to have emergency surgery? When was your scheduled surgery date. If you've signed off now to rest I understand. Rest up and take care. :-)

I had my staples removed Friday afternoon just before they discharged me...I didn't feel a smidge of pain. My incision is about 6 inches, by the looks of it....Blessings to all.

Hugs,

Mich

I have a vertical incision 9 inches long. There were 27 staples in the main incision and two each in the two side cuts made for those god awful drains. My staples were removed last Wednesday and it did not hurt a bit. I have steri-strips until sometime this coming week.
