Going nuts 11 days post op

Had TAH- BSO on 9/13 Took uterus and both ovaries. Doctor never mentioned hormones and sent none home. Docs been rotten throughout but at least I got it done. Surgery was because of very large fibroids and also found cysts in ovaries at surgery. Everything benign, thank God! Have had some problems with drug alergies(morphine, lortab,& percacet) so no pain meds. I can deal with the pain but feel like Im going freakin nuts! Sweats, then freezing, heart palpitations, weakness, dizziness. nausea, and oh those uncontrolable moods from anxiety to anger and depresion. New to this part of site and have been trying to read but oh so confusing. Any help out there? Anda

Hi Anda,

I am 4 weeks post op. I had probs with percocet and morpheme too. My gyn suggested benadryl for the nausea and that has helped. Talk to your dr.'s nurse to make sure it is OK for you. I'm trying not to do HRT. I had a TAH, kept cervix. Vicodin worked much better for the pain, but I try to take it only when I really am hurting (much less now). You've been through a lot. Hang in there, and maybe you have a friend who could recommend a better gyn to talk to regarding HRT if your symptoms don't go away. Some of your anxiety etc. may be due to the trauma of the surgery and the anesthesia and meds. too. Best wishes, and hoping you find a helpful medical professional to talk with. My drs. nurse recommended Vit. B complex for my anxiety. I'm taking a multi vitamin, Vit. E, and Vit. C too when my stomach can handle it to help with healing.

Take good care, and best wishes,

Barbara

Hi Anda,

Sorry you are having such a hard time of it. The hot flashes can be awful, along with some of the other symptoms.

As far as I know hrt helps with all of this almost anywhere from 85%to 100% for a lot of ladies.

The supplements are try it and see if it works, and it takes anywhere from 4weeks to 12 weeks to see if they work.

Everyone is different in what works for them. If you don't have endo or cancer history then Black Cohosh and soy may work. There are several over the counter combinations in them for menopausal symptoms.

The dr can perscribe an anti-depressant Effexor , which is known to help moods and hot flashes, though not as good as hrt.

Please read and research all the supplements out there. You can begin by clicking on Resources for our library of info or you can click on Search and put in a topic to see what others say in posts.

I hope you find what you are looking for.

Thanks! Talked to a Naturopath. Tried some progesterone cream today and got rid of alot of it. She said since I knew my former cycle and I WOULD have started my period yesterday that my body needed progesterone for next 12 days then estrogen cream for next 14. Didnt help with sweats but relieved shakyness, heart pounding, and evened out mood swings. I actualy felt human today though still pretty sore from surgery. Maybe just a good day but really seemed to notice a difference. Heres hoping! Anda

HI READ YOUR POST AND FEEL THE SAME WAY. HAD SURGERY ON THE 14TH OF SEPTEMBER STAYED IN THE HOSPITAL FOR 4 DAYS HAD A LOT OF BRUSING AND DOCTOR SAID WHEN HE RELEASED ME TO GO TO MY FAMILY DOCTOR AND LET HIM KNOW HOW I BRUSIED SO MUCH. WENT THERE TODAY STILL IN A LOT OF PAIN TAKING PERCOCETS AND NOW HAVE TO HAVE A LOT OF EXTRA BLOOD WORK DONE TO SEE IF I HAVE ANY BLOOD DISORDER. BUT AS FAR AS THE HOT FLASHES I HAD THEN FOR 1 1/2 YEARS PRIOR TO THE SURGERY THEY WERE SO BAD THAT THEY WERE COMING EVERY HOUR SO HOT I COULD NOT STAND IT THEN SO COLD WELL EVEN AFTER THE SURGERY WHEN I WAS STILL ON THE MORPHINE I WAS HAVING THEM NOT ON ANY HORMONES AND DON'T WANT TO BE BUT THE HOT FLASHES ARE BAD. DOES YOUR STOMACH STILL HURT AND ARE YOU DRIVING YET? I DRIVE STICK SHIFT AND DIDN'T GET THE OK TO DRIVE YET AND DON'T THINK I EVEN COULD CAUSE THE PAIN IS STILL PRETTY BAD.

Yeah, Im driving. Even went to work today for two hours. Would NOT recomend it but nessesary in my case. Still sore but the cream has been a godsend! Along with a drop of black cohosh tinture before bedtime and I feel almost human again. Of course I have a long way to go before the surgery heals but Im surprised how much easier it is with my hormones somewhat balenced. THIS is what I expected and I can deal with the pain and healing but the rest of the junk was just too much. I hope that you get to feeling better soon! Anda
