Help! Every since hyst I have horrible headaches!!

HI ladies, I really need to talk to someone. I have been having excrutiating painfull headaches for about 3 days now. My hyst was on 9-20 and my ovaries are gone too. I am 24 and never had any bad headaches in my whole life, and when i did get a headache before it was mild and went away very quickly. These are like nothing ive ever felt, nothing is working to relieve the pain, my head feels heavy and sometimes my eyes get blurry, i have been crying alot because of the pain. I had a LAVH/SBO/TVT. Please let me know if any of you guys are experiencing this. Any responses would be great!!!!

Take care and God Bless

Paula

*punch* this is what i feel like someone is doing to me!

I was having the same thing, headaches like never before. At first I thought it was a percocet hangover, so I gave those up and went to IBP only. Still headaches. I called my MD and they said I might be dehydrated some. I started pushing water, and the headaches subsided. It could also be an after-effect of the anesthesia.
HUGS! and Good Luck!

The after effects from the anesthesia can give you a headache. But one other thing I want to mention. If you are lying down a lot since you've been home, make sure you have a good pillow with good support for your neck. I had a terrible headache and it all seemed to come down to a cramping in my neck from poor support from my pillow.

It's amazing how many things can contribute to ones recovery. Right down to the pillow under my head.

My best to you.

Are you on any HRT? Headaches are often triggered by low estrogen levels, or large fluctuations in estrogen level.

In her book "Screaming to be Heard", Dr. Elizabeth Lee Vliet has a great chapter on Migraines and Hormonal Headaches. Might be worth a look!

Oh, and the tons of water is always a great idea.

Hi - Did you by any chance have a spinal? There is something called a spinal headache and it doesn't show up until about 3-5 days after your surgery. If you had a spinal then you need to call your doctor right away because they can fix it.
Good Luck- Tracey

(((Paula))) everyone's body is different and may respond differently to the various HRT's. A good one to try first is the Vivelle dot patch. The patches are very easy to use and less prone to side effects than the pills.

The dot comes in .025, .0375, .05, .075 and .10mg/day doses... the .05mg/day is a good starting dose because the two that are lower are too low for symptom relief for many women, and it's easier to start on the low side and increase if needed than it is to start high and decrease.

Your DR should have samples of the patches that you can try before committing to a month's worth. You need to give it some time (a few weeks is best) before deciding whether it's right for you.

If you do decide to try the Vivelle dot (or other name brand patch), make sure your DR writes "dispense as written" or "no substitutions" on the prescription; otherwise you may find that the pharmacy substitutes a generic patch at the request of your insurer, and the generic patches are notorious for not working nearly as well and not sticking properly.

Talk with your DR... you should not have to suffer in silence with these headaches if it's possible that you could get relief just from sticking on a little patch.

I'm 12 days post-op from my TAH + ovaries. I also experience headaches everyday. I'm refusing HRT which is my personal choice as I've read and researched to many negative facts. I've handled the night sweats and they have signifigantly lessened. I have also found that If I have a cup of hot green tea (sometimes two)with 2 teaspoons of sugar my headaches go away for a couple hours. Does anyone else have a other natural remedies for dealing with discomforts of TAH.

(((Zule))) if you are interested in reading about what other members do using herbs and supplements to manage their menopausal symptoms, you might want to visit the No-Hormone Desert Oasis forum, which is a forum for ladies who cannot or choose not to use HRT's.

We also have the Hormone Jungle forum for ladies who are using HRT's, both bio-identical and synthetic.

And, there are some great links in our Resources directory which can help with the decision about whether or not to use HRT's. Just click on Resources in the banner at the top of any page on this site, and scroll down to the Hormone and No-Hormone sections.

Happy reading!
