Hi dodieann --

I don't know if it will help any, but you're definitely not alone when it comes to being scared before this surgery.

Even though my surgery was over 3 years ago -- I can easily remember how scared I was. I had never been in a hospital for anything other than outpatient stuff, had never had major surgery like this, was worried about how my dh and I were going to manage when I came home (he's in a wheelchair) -- I was totally scared of out my mind.

The best suggestion I have is to keep reading the boards here on Hystersisters and keep yourself well-informed -- but try not to go overboard worrying -- remember that we are all individuals and not everyone experiences some of the problems that some of our members come here to post about. There are lots of us who followed our doc's instructions, didn't have any complications, recovered well, and are living happier and healthier as a result of having had this surgery.

Stay busy if you can and try to focus on other things (it's hard to do, I know). Make sure you have everything lined up for when you come home after surgery (check out the pre-op hints if you get a chance -- go up there to where it says "More Hystersisters" and scroll down to pre-op hints and click on it) and you'll find lots of good advice. Try to find some time to do some things just for YOU and try to take a couple of deep breaths and relax.

And remember you're not alone!!
