15" of shopping & I'm wiped out for 10 hrs!?

Good morning fine gals, grab your coffee and join me in my morning rant! Here goes....

Ok, so last evening I HAD to go to the grocery to refill my pain meds. Why did I HAVE to go? Because my SO worked until midnight last night and I had to have my pain meds...none left.

I took it real easy ALL day yesterday...slept 3 hours in the afternoon, rest of time was relaxing. So, I got in the car and drove 1/2 block to the grocery. Turned in my script...was walking while resting on a shopping cart (BTW, was the ONLY person in the store in shorts! HA! Now I'm a trend-setter...tee hee!)

So I now have 15" to wait for my script to be filled. I thought it would be good to get in a walk in the store and pick up a few items...went to the back of the store (not far), got a small orange juice...few aisles up, got a small coffee...on the way picked up a small toilet paper and some M&Ms (anti-depressants!)...picked up some "trash mags"...some lunchmeat...NOTICE that none of this stuff was heavy. I AM being good, yes I am. Short walk, too.

Got my script, checked out, drove home, carried it up (held little bags close to my body to help reduce any effect of their weight). Got in the house and reclined with a bologna sandwich and glass of juice. I was tired, but watched a little telly (that's for you UK gals, love ya!)

Went to bed at 11pm and slept like a log until 9:30am. Absolutely exhausted...WHAT?! I feel like I am getting weaker instead of stronger. Is that possible?

Then, saw my SO for 5" before he left for the day again...bye, I wanted to be alone all day again?...NOT.

SO...15" of shopping and then exhaustion? At this rate I'll be able to shop for 30" in another month!

Yeah, I had a cry and yeah, my SO didn't get it but what else is new? I am crying because I want to get out and GO and enjoy my new found freedom from pain, flooding, cramping, etc. but I'm too darn tired! I am a brat who wants to go hiking, biking, shopping, etc.

I WANT IT AND I WANT IT NOW!!! There...I feel MUCH better!

I've got to add, this part of it all is far harder than the surgery...at least for me!

Ok, thanks for listening....love ya all!

Silly ol' me in Ohio, Deb

(((((((((Deb))))))))))))) You sound like you need a big hug....Its funny how the little things seem so big now.... I can totally relate to that. How hard is it to walk around a store for a few minutes! Sheesh....

My big trip to the store two blocks away found me purchasing balogny too....Yummmmmm, almost as good as M$M's for depression...hehe

Take care, rest, and do nothing for the day. It will get better!!

15" of shopping & I'm wiped out for 10 hrs!?

hi,

I agree with you. I will be 6 wks PO on Monday and go for my follow-up on the 12th. I have no pain at the moment, just EXHAUSTED!!! I feel so Lazy. My house is upside down, I mean I can actually see the dust bunnies laughing at me. I worked full time before the surgery and have a 3-yr old daughter so my house is needing a true cleaning and I was hoping at some point during my recovery I would feel like doing SOMETHING!! My DH helps with our DD sometimes but he really works very hard and when he finally gets home he is exhausted and falls asleep in the recliner. Somedays I will have supper ready for him and then I'm just totally wiped out. I just feel so guilty laying here all day and only managing to get the dishes and clothes done. Some days I don't even get that done. I think it's exhaustion and depression setting in. I'm on depression meds but I don't think they are working. I hope you feel better soon SISTER. Just remember I'm here if you ever need to vent.

Well I think you are nuts....just because you eat balogna sandwiches and drink OJ at the same time!!! Yuck!

Truly.....it is frustrating!! I am 8 days post-op...and just sitting on the computer for 15 minutes makes me lie down for an hour. I let the dog out and nap....I get the mail and have to nap.
If you are like me, you are not a sitter. I am not good at home all day alone. I get into a weeping jag! I hate not doing anything and there is only so much TV you can watch and only so many times you can read.

I am praying for you!

First time I went to the grocery after my op, same thing happened to me. Those carts aren't as light as I thought they were, and I was amazed (and still am) at how many muscles I have in my abdomen and core that I use all the time without being aware of it.

I know it seems lilke a set-back, but you just had a really really good workout, and you will get better. the next time won't be as bad. I had to remember to tell myself that when I was out walking, shopping, etc. that whenever I started to think,"hey, this is not so bad, I'm doing better than I thought I would, " that it is probably time to stop before I overdid it. Little steps gradually is better than jumping right into it. If you have a choice between standing and sitting when you arr waiting in line, sit!

It's getting better, hang in there, we've all been there too.

Hi (((Bichonese))):

I like the idea of the m&m's being antidepressants. Don't worry though you are still early on in recovery and you have been out doing things here and there for a while so some days it can catch up to you. Just alow yourself time to heal, its your bodies way of telling you to slow down. I remember when I was 3 weeks post op, I went with my dh to the store it was only a 10 minute drive and I stayed in the car(didn't even get out), he was in the store a total of probably 10 minutes, we drove straight home and I was so exhausted I went to bed and slept the rest of the afternoon. It does get better though but I know it can feel dissapointing in the meantime.

Don't worry though you will be back to your old self soon, I have read your previous posts and personally I think you are doing just great. Take care and hope you feel better soon.

a little laugh helps...

I am going back to bed...I have only been up 2.5 hours and I am going back to bed.

This is how I am going to spend my weekend...mostly in the bed or recliner.

When my SO gets home, I am going to send him out for "take out". Then, back to the recliner.

Sweet dreams and gratitude for you all!

Love and hugs from Deb in Ohio

Take out is a great idea!

Sweetie, you were out for a heck of a lot more than a 15 minute shopping trip.

You drove the car twice, walked around, carried bags, reached out up down and over to pick up the things you wanted, --- and even if you weren't really aware of it you were probably feeling a bit anxious about being out on your own..... and you are not that far out from your surgery date.....

I know it is frustrating - I've been there, but you just have to do a little bit every day , and a little bit more the next. You can't go from zero to errands in one swoop.

I hope you start to notice an improvement really soon!
