About my TAH experience

Well I guess I feel lucky that things went as well as they did for me. I started out anemic and needing transfusions, which was rather shocking. My periods were terribly heavy. At the time I was hospitalized for my transfusions I was also sick with sustained high fever 105 for days. THey found a very large tumor that needed to be removed, thought that it was likely dying and causing my body to have the fevers. I had the very scary hysterectomy, thought I was going to be back to work in 2 or three weeks, found out eventually that 6 was just barely enough. I hated the pain killers, but needed them. I hated being inactive, but have since regained my vigorousness. BUT I still hate the scar, and my little bulge over it. I hate the constipation which is excruciating and now I am a prune popping mama. I hate the fact that the doctors all make it sound like this surgery is a piece of cake. My stomach swelled everytime I exerted myself for the first 9 months afterward. Noone ever told me to expect that. I loved my surgeon, but she made light of the recovery. I think its a big mistake to not be very realistic with women abouit what they will and won't be able to do. They told me I could probably be down hill skiing 3 months after my surgery. NO WAY could I. Anyway I totally feel for everyone out there who has to experience this. I admire all of your courageness. I hope that you have lots of loving support in your lives. Take care
