NHRT with Endo?

I would like to know if anyone can give me advise about Natural Hormone Replacement Therapy (NHRT).

I fought with my Endo for twenty years and finally went ahead and had a hysterectomy. Now I will not go on HRT for fear of having the Endo come back and because I am at a high risk for breast cancer, so I would like to know if there are any natural herbs that can help me with the symptoms of menopause without endangering me in the Endo?

I would appreciate any help I can get.

Thank you,
Rhonda

NHRT with Endo?

Hi Rhonda!

I've been struggling with the same problem and finally broke down and went to a Homeopathic Dr yesterday. She gave me tons of information on handling surgical menopause. She told me all the things listed below should be ordered from a compounding pharmacy- the one I use is The Healthy Hotline 1 (800) 603-0339. This is what she told me to do:

Take three 5HTP in the evening with dinner. This is for:
A natural and safe alternative to tryptophan.
L-5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is used by the body to synthesize serotonin, a neurohormone needed for melatonin production, appetite regulation, and mood regulation. 5-HTP is a natural product extracted from the seeds of the Griffonia plant, unlike tryptophan which is produced synthetically or through bacterial fermentation. Plus, 50 mg of 5-HTP is roughly equivalent to 500 mg of tryptophan.

Take 2 DL Phenylalanine in the morning with meals. This is for: Hypoallergenic. D and L forms of phenylalanine in a 50/50 mix. L-phenylalanine is frequently supplemented by orthomolecular medical doctors and psychiatrists because it is reported to be very beneficial with different forms of depression. Patients currently taking MAO inhibitors should not be on DLPA. D-phenylalanineis a synthetic mirror image of the L form, but is known to be far more effective with pain syndrome.

Progestrone Cream: Use in the morning after your shower and in the evening before bed. Applicatiion should be the amount of an almond. This is For:
ProGest has been used by health care practitioners for their female patients for nearly a quarter century. As the first transdermal progesterone cream available, it has a long
history of clinical use and physician satisfaction. ProGest may be used alone or with other products that support women's health and well-being. USP Progesterone(natural progesterone) is made
from naturally occurring plant sterols in a patented process developed by chemist, Russell Marker in 1942. Diosgenin, a sterol from wild yam(Dioscoria) root, has historically been used for the production of natural progesterone. Progesterone is produced by the corpus luteum of the ovary, and to a lesser degree from the adrenal glands of both sexes. Progesterone has multiple roles in the body. Primarily, it is required for successful implantation of a fertilized egg, fetal development, balancing the effects of Estrogen, a myriad of intrinsic biologic properties, and as a precursor to other steroid hormones.

Take 3 of The Calcium/Magnesium Bone Density in the evening before bed. This is For:
Bone Density Formula is a physician-formulated dietary Supplement which provides calcium, magnesium, boron, and other vital nutrients to enhance bone density and strength. Magnesium and boron have been shown to increase calcium
absorption and utilization. Clinical studies have demonstrated that regular exercise and a healthy diet with enough calcium helps teens and young adult white and Asian women maintain good bone health. For all persons with a family history of osteoporosis, menopausal women, and elderly men and women,
adequate calcium is linked to a reduced risk risk of osteoporosis through the mechanism of slowing the rate of bone loss. For growing teenagers who do not get adequate calcium in their diet, calcium supplementation is recommended.

Take 1 B-Complex in the morning. This is for:
As a complex, the B vitamins are essential for the proper functioning of the nervous system and are perhaps the most
important nutritional factor for healthy nerve cells. The B vitamins also play a role in the conversion of carbohydrates into energy, in
the metabolism of fats and protein, and in the maintenance of muscle tone in the GI tract. The B vitamins support the integrity
of the skin, hair, and liver.

Take 2 Folic Acid in the morning with a meal. This is for:
Folate functions with vitamin B12 and ascorbic acid in the breakdown and utilization of proteins. It is necessary for
the growth and reproduction of red and white blood cells, the formation of nucleic acids, the conversion of homocysteine to
methionine, and the production of gastric HCl. Folic acid is essential for normal fetal neural development.

Take 3 Vitamin E (400 IU each). This is for:
HOT FLASHES! INGREDIENTS:
EACH SOFTGEL CAPSULE CONTAINS: %DV
d-Alpha Tocopherol...............400 IU 1333 from Mixed Tocopherols including d-Alpha, d-Beta, d-Gamma and d-Delta Tocopherols
derived from natural vegetable oils. Contains no yeast, corn, wheat, barley, sugar, starch, milk, coloring or preservatives.

Take 1 Adrenal Glandular in the Morning. This is for:
A raw concentrate (not an extract) of bovine adrenal. Adrenal supplements are commonly used to support disturbances of blood sugar such as hypoglycemia, and in chronic fatigue
patients to enhance energy levels. Valuable in most auto-immune conditions where inflammations and exhaustion play a big role.
Glands processed at low temperature to preserve natural constituents.

She also told me to drink 4 cups of Green Tea (2 in the am and 2 in the pm) a day to help with weight loss (I gained 20 lbs after I quit smoking). To see my Dr and to request a Bone Scan to find out my baseline.... she said this is crucial since the majority of bone loss happens immediately after the surgery. She also gave me some drops that she put together while I watched that immediately stop hot flashes! I put 10 drops underneath my tongue and the hot flash stopped!

Hope this helps!

Be careful

You may want to speak with your Doctor First. I went on Hrt after my HYst and my endo came back 1o folds. I had endo tumors. Then was taken off that and put on all natural stuff and guess what had another surgery just this March for endo again. Now it is in my bowels and up to my lungs. The doctor in Phoenix told me no no no natural or HRt. They make the endo thrive. Just thaught I would let you know. I learned the hard way. Now Mine wont ever go away becouse I was feeding it and it found new places to go.

NHRT with Endo?

Rachelle,

Thank you for sharing your story and concern. I will speak to my doctor before doing any type of HRT.

I'm very sorry to hear that you have gone through so much with the Endo. I cannot believe how terrible this disease is and how many women are affected by it. I truly hope they will someday find a cure and until then, I will thank my lucky stars that I had sons instead of daughters.

If you don't mind me asking, did you have any reproductive surgery before the Endo? I believe that by having my tubes tied it somehow caused or brought the endo on, but it could be just a coincidence.

Wishing you the best,
Rhonda

NHRT with Endo?

Rhonda,

No I had no surgery before my first attack when I was seventeen. Luckly I have one son as well. No daughters. I was told I could have no children and then I got pregnant with my DS the night before my DH left for boot camp. Miracles do happen. I have been fighting with this disease for 12 years and have had no luck with anyone helping me for the better. Everyone just wants to open me up. I have had the last of it in March. I know my endo is back and they now want to go in again becouse of how it is spreading. I had to put a end to it and said no more. I was promissed after the Hyst I would have this no longer and they were wrong. Like I said it is in my bowels, they recently did a spinal tap to check if it was there and luckly it was not. It has also made its way up to my lungs. The next thing they are now questioning is , is it in my brain. Becouse recently my headaches have been non stop for 3 months now. People dont understand how threatning this can be and how it spreads like cancer. Please be careful.

NHRT with Endo?

Rachelle,

My heart goes out to you. I wish you all the luck in the world with this monster you have to beat.

What do the docs plan on doing with the endo that has come back now? What can they do to your lungs?

Best wishes,
Rhonda

NHRT with Endo?

HI Rachelle

I just wanted to say how sorry I am that you are still battling your endo

I saw on your profile that you have kept your ovaries. I was infromed by my doctor that my ovaries had to be removed at the time of my hysterectomy because endo is fed off of estrogen.
If you have kept your ovaries then you are still producing estrogen and therefore the endo will continue to grow and spread.

Alot of doctors remove the ovaries and then make women wait 3-6 months before starting estrogen. That allows time for any remaining endo to starve off and die. I just seem to be running across more women who keep their ovaries to continue to have problems with their endo.

I don't understand why doctors have such a different approach to treating endo in women.

My goes out to you and I hope you find some relief soon to help you with your current health concerns.

NHRT with Endo?

((Rachel)) I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Endometriosis in 1990 and it is suspected it was in other areas of my body as well (in chest wall and skull). I understand your frustrations with this disease! I am VERY interested in your story, as I have done a lot of research on this issue - especially those that have endo in abnormal areas (lungs, brain, etc.). If you are interested in sharing, can you tell me if you have had a broncoscopy to confirm endo in your lungs? What symptoms were you having?

Am I reading this correctly that they did not remove your ovaries when you first had your hysterectomy? If so, why did they choose to leave them in? Are they both removed now?

My ovaries were removed 2 years ago, and I have been fairly free of endo pain. I since have been diagnosed with 2 other lung disease. Although they DO NOT believe the pulmonary endo caused these other disease, the believe there is an underlying auto immune disease that caused the endo AND these other diseases. I mention this, as I wonder if you too have experienced other auto immune issues other than Endometriosis?

Thank you for sharing -
