night sweats
I just had my hysterectomy the first of this month and besides the pain of the 36 staple long incision the night sweats are preventing me from getting real rest at night.....any advice?

Windfire,
Did you have a "total" hysterectomy, ovaries too? Or did you keep your ovaries? Nightsweats can be a sign of a lack of estrogen and/or a fluctuation in your hormone levels. Are you currently taking anything for hrt?

Night sweats are no fun. Kim's right that HRT helps. In the meantime, wear light pj's, turn the thermostat down, sleep with your arms outside the covers, and keep a towel and spare pair of dry pj's at the bedside (so you can dry off and change while still half asleep).
Good luck!

I had a complete, everything is gone...the night sweats are a real pain, and the waking up every couple of hours to have to sit up and cool off is really taking its toll

Windfire,
Are you taking anything for hormone replacement? If so what are you taking, doseage and type? If not, why not?
Sorry for all the questions. Nightsweats are a sign of a hormonal imbalance. And I agree they are no fun, I've been there.
Hugs :-)

I'm so sorry for these problems you are having. Premarin is known to have alot of side effects. Some women do fine when taking it, while others don't. Headaches, nausea, insomnia. You could just be experiencing some fluctuation in your levels as you recuperate from the surgery. Or you could have an imbalance. I would discuss this with your doctor about either tweaking your doseage or trying something else. Let him/her know how awful you are feeling. You do NOT have to live like this. If you'll follow this link http://www.hormonejungle.com/estrogen.htm you will find a list of the different choices you have for your hrt.
Hang in there Windfire, it does get better. You are fairly early in your recovery and sometimes it takes a bit of tweaking and changing to find the hormones that are right for you. Do make sure you discuss this with your doctor first. And know that you are not alone, we are here for you, most of us have been there.
Hugs :-)

night sweats
Hi Windfire
What a crummy way to spend the holidays Been there...and I DO understand. The HRT/night sweat part, I had a lap assisted vaginal so I can't relate to the staples but OUCH!!! It wasn't until I was on a higher dose of Climara patch that my night sweats went away. I started on .025 and that only made the hot flashes stop. Before that I had tried tri-est with compounded progest and test. didn't do much for me The doc took one look at me during an appointment and said "your really tired aren't you?" DUH! I just said "Give me new drugs...NOW!" and he did Took just a few days and I had a night sweat free night! Not a one since, that I'm aware of....if they're still happening I'm sleeping thru them. This is on a fairly low dose too. Only .05 and I love the patch. Still have to take my compounded progesterone orally but only at night and it's not a biggie. BEST of luck to you and hang in there it does take awhile, unfortunally .....I'm only 3.5 months post-op and things are slowly looking up each day! (each time they raise the HRT doesn't hurt either )
