It seems ok. Being SO self concious, depressed etc.... I didn't like that you can see everyone all the time working. That made me even more self concious. I just drove there to pick up info and get prices. It isn't too bad. They HAD a special that joining fee was 50% off and was $59 instead of $149. I then asked about discounts for any groups etc.... and she said they DID have a district employee discount special going but it ended Sept. 30th. She said since that was just 4 days ago, she would extend it to me, since I am a district employee (elem. school).

So it would be $29 to join and then $29 a month. Their hours aren't too bad EXCEPT weekends. Saturdays they are only open for THREE hours 8-11 and no Sundays. They had 8 machines and resting stations.

There were only 2 ladies there working out when I stopped in at 3 in the afternoon, both of them I would guess to be late 50's and one walking in as I walked out.

So............ I have an appt tomorrow at 11 a.m. to be walked through the machines and such, then we shall see.

Cool Cool Cool!

I think you'll find is about as comfortable a place to work out as it gets. I used to roll out of bed & go there with chicken hair wearing baggy t-shirts. Must have been a sight some days!Never felt bad, the ladies there are just like us. I hope it works out for you!

Good for you for going!!!!!!!!!!!

Chicken hair???????????????

HA.......... these two 'older' ladies there were wearing NICE looking exercise clothing. I mean one had on leopard print jog bra thing and matching capri spandex type pants. She was quite slim as was the other woman.

They also were telling me about a "weight loss class" beginning October 12th at 6 in the evenings at our local library and that costs $59 extra.

Anyone familiar with this? Is it REALLY worth more $$$?????

I really enjoyed working out at curves before I had this surgery. I enjoyed there not being a "set" time and I could go when the mood struck me. I would go dressed in shorts and comfortable top. That 1/2 hour in there did me more good then an hour class in step aerobics.

Sapphire, I am so glad you went to check out Curves. The one I go to has all types of ladies. Some in their early twenties to eighties. Some girls work at a local DR office and come in their scrubs, some come in shorts, work out clothes, knit capris, sweats, stained clothes and nice clothes. It doesn't really matter, no one really pays attention, you just go in, work out, stretch and leave. I wish I could afford to take the nutrition class but I have the book and will follow it. The Curves I attend is starting tomorrow and I started it today. I wish you all the success if you decide to join. I am so glad that I did it. I don't work, so it is an extra burden on my DH for me to spend that money every month, but it is worth it to him if I am happy and healthy. That is my main goal, to get healthy, and get rid of this weight. I go to my Curves any where between 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., my favorite time to go is around 10 because there isn't too many there. Good luck to you Sapphire.

Been a Curves member for a year with the last visit 5 weeks ago (1 week preop). It helped me so much by giving me extra strength in my legs and arms to use rather than my abs. I miss the workouts and already feel like I'm starting to lose a little muscle tone with all of this resting.

I am NOT an exerciser and I've found this place to be the least competitive place ever with the ladies being very supportive. Can exercise in peace - go ahead - want to chat - you'll find some one with whom to strike up a conversation (Makes 30 min. fly!). This is the first place that I've ever stuck with for this long. Good luck and happy exercising!

I am also a memeber of Curves and love it, my question is when do you ladies feel like you will be ready to return to the workouts? I am 3 1/2 post op and feel like I wont be able to work out for awhile since most of the machines pull on the stomach area, I have been advised my Dr usually releases at 6 weeks I dont know about this, I feel parinoid about working the machines this early - what do you guys think?

I would say.... listen to your Dr. and follow their advice, AND listen to your 'gut' and what it tells you. Sorry for the pun ;-)

Dr. gave me a note for 2 months excuse so that my membership could be put on medical leave with no payment due. After 2 months he said to return when I felt up to it. The way I feel now - see you in 6 months!
