Question: What exactly causes warm flashes?

I refuse to call them hot. And I also refuse to let them overtake me, control me, upset me. Just started down this road within the past month. So far, just some waking during the night - push the covers off, then freezing and pull them back on. Couple small ones during the day.

What exactly is the root of this problem? What is lack of estrogen affecting that causes the flashes? Is this an autonomic issue? I recall years ago having an anxiety disorder, where - hot flashes, palpitations, etc. I controled them with relaxation techniques. I continue to do relaxation but not as often as I should.

So far no loss of energy, mood swings, lessening of sexual desire. The flashes are annoying, and I've learned to take deep breaths and not get upset when they do come on. Fan myself, always have cold water handy.

I'm taking vitamine E (also due to breast cysts), potassium and magnesium (as I'm a low carb eater for over two years now), and although we all should do calcium, I haven't and am going to add that as well. Not opposed to HRT, but breast cancer runs in my family, the estrogen sensitive type, so really don't want to go there.

I sure would like to have just one night of full sleep without waking four or five times though. At least my sheets aren't soaking. Yet.

Always remaining positive,
Shirley

Question: What exactly causes warm flashes?

Hi Shirley

Here's a link to an article which describes what happens during a flash.

I hope others will post to share what has worked for them to keep the flashes and flushes at bay!

Question: What exactly causes warm flashes?

Keep up the positive attitude! I did, and it really has been great. I never had the mood swings or anything bad (warm flushes which are now almost gone, and vaginal dryness which is easily fixed).

Your warm flashes should lessen to where you won't remember the last time you had one.
