got my first lupron shot
I got my first lupron shot yesterday morning. I was so nervous about it, I brought a friend along to hold my hand. The needle was impressive, but I didn't feel a thing! After a while, my behind felt like there was a good size bruise in it, but that went away pretty soon. I wonder how soon you start noticing the possible side-effects....
Anyway, so far, so good.

got my first lupron shot
Hi Pixxie,
For me, it took close to a week. Was not immediate.
I layered my clothes and I just drank lots of water to keep hydrated if a hot flash came along.
Best wishes,
Mary

got my first lupron shot
I have been on an estrogen add back, small dose, so have had no hot flashes, etc. , but I had migraines everyday for three weeks with my first shot. The first two days I felt great, better than ever, but then it kicked in. The doctors told me it should kick in immediately, but that wasn't the case for me.

got my first lupron shot
I had lupron shots Aug. 23 and Sept. 20. I started getting hot flashes the first week. MOOD SWINGS too!!!!!.
Still have lots of hot flashes (5-10 a day) but feel I have the moody thing under control (as of the last weeK) My family is grateful.
Yesterday and today my pain is relatively gone. YIPPEE!!!! It was hovering at a constant 6out of 10. I am so happy, it feels like an incredible relief! I finally feel that it was worth the $675.00 I'm guessing those broids are finally shrinking.
No period since 1st week in sept. Also a GOOD thing!
Good luck to you!!!! From what I've been reading about Lupron on this sight, everyone seems to respond differently.
How many more shots are you to have?

Some of you actually have to pay the full amount of the shot? Yikes! I would never be able to do that. My insurance pays all but $86.95 and I still think that is too much.

got my first lupron shot
I had a lupron shot back in March and the night sweats started after week 1 as well as the day sweats and mood swings. I also broke out in hives that were very itchy, took a antihestimine that helped a bit. I didn't get a period after the shot and since I had a TAH Aug. 16th I know I will never get one now "Yahoo". Every one does react differant to Lupron so do read all the side effects so you will be prepared.
Good luck

got my first lupron shot
Is that $675.00 per shot or for 2 shots? I am in Canada and I pay $364.10 per shot. The insurance paid 90% of this so I paid only $36.41.
As for the side effects, I didn't have any the first month. I had 2 periods the first month and spotted in between. After my 2nd shot my periods were gone! I had a couple of warm flashes the second month. The third shot brought on the hot flashes, headaches, and dry skin & hair. I started using a good hair conditioner / moisturiser and a wash off body cream in the shower. Relations with my dh ended because I became too dry and it was painful. You just have to be inventive in that area. Before the shots I was either flooding or spottng so we didn't get much action anyway. I was very anaemic before the shots but after I felt super. I have energy, no more flooding and hopefully my fibroids have shrunk. Good luck!

got my first lupron shot
Hi Pixxie,
I had one Lupron shot about 3 weeks before my emergency TAH. I never got any hot flashes or physical symptoms from the shot; it also didn't stop the bleeding. In fact, in got worse which is why I ended up in the emergency room.
I have one ovary left and have not had hormone imbalance problems yet. I was a lot worse before surgery. Everyone's different.
Good luck you.
Natalie

got my first lupron shot
Today is the third day after my shot and I have been nauseous on and off and felt like I'm having a hangover. I also cried during Oprah, totally uncharacteristic for me.
I'm a bit worried all of a sudden, about what is in store for me in the future. It's not like I can pull this shot out of my behind and get rid of it, so...I guess, I'm committed to finish the ride.
My gyn wants me to get 3 shots to shrink my evergrowing belly (someone actually congratulated me yesterday and asked when the happy occasion is. that made me feel just super.)
and get my hemoglobin under control. I have a grapefruit and some golf balls, hoping to have a supracervical hyst and keep my ovaries and cervix.
Right now, I just want to bury my head in the sand. Actually, it'd be great to wake up in Feb, and have it all behind me (surgery is scheduled 12/27/04).I'm sort of a big chicken, lol.

got my first lupron shot
Thats one of the joys of living in beautiful BC Some things are just no longer covered under our medical plan. It was $675.00 for both shots. The best deal I found was at The Great Can Stupid Store (or thats what my kids call it)
You are right!!! it is too much, but at the time it seemed worth it at any price! Too much blood and too much pain.
