Unhappy - Ureter injury Ureter injury

I am asking fo rhelpful advise from anyone who may have had Ureter Injury duing you hysterectomy. I am two week post op from the surgery and doing well. In fact very well. I was readmitted to th hospital three days after surgery for severe pain- They found that the Ureter was cut on my left side and all the urine was spilling into my body after a few days of pumping it out and having me in a drug induced coma I awoke to a lovely wiry tuble like mess coming out of my left kidney. My right is just fine. Anyway I now where a pee-pee bag on my left leg and am awaiting reconstructive surgery in hopefully two more weeks. I am just very nervouse about what will happpen. I know this was an acident- My surgery was horrible in the fact that it should have been 2-3 hours and took almost 5 hours. My female area was a mess, way worse than the expected. I just want someone who may have gone through the reconstructive or nows what I am facing to maybe reply.
Thanks alot----readit_readit

Ureter injury

Readit..

My bladder was injured during my hyst between the ureters. They had to find & cath them before repairing the bladder and doing the hyst. However, my problem is with the bladder, as the ureters were not severed. Just wanted to wish you good luck.

I'm so sorry you are going through all of this. My ureter wasn't damaged but I did have a fibroid that was growing around it. My surgeon and my urologist were able to remove it without a problem. I too, just wanted to wish you the best and let you know that my are with you. Hopefully someone will be along that has walked down this path and shed some positive light on recovery for you. Keep in touch and let us know how you are doing.

Ureter injury

i totally understand. 20 hours after my tvh i started having horrible pain on my left side, took me into a cat scan and found nothing on that side..

but on the right they found blockage on the top of the Ureter

many hours later i was back in surgery and they put a stent in
and came home 6 days after the first surgery

okay stent bugging a little and 24 days after the instert date i am have a bit of pain and see the urogolist and they remove it and everything seems okay that was at 10:30 am by 2pm i was achey at 3 i called the office and nurse said take motrin
i did and by 6 still hurt
paged doctor directly didn't want to talk to his nurse again told him where the pain was and explained it was just likt the orginal pain but on the right not the left..
and he informs me that he is concerned of kidney failure.. calls me in some pain med to get me thru the night and wants me to come into the office the next morning..
which by this time i am a emontional wreck

head in for the mri and get a call from his surgery nurse not to go to the office but go to outpaitent surgery...

so now i am freaking out more.. but i get there this place was really nice not same place as before

they put in another stent and ran some xrays and found out my right Ureter at the side of the kidney had scar tissue and he thinks it shrank when all the organs were removed.

and next week i go in and have a ballon put in the Ureter

Beta...

I am so sorry to hear what you are going through. My bladder was injured during my hyst. Have you found a really good urologist? I was not comfortable going back to my original gyne and uro as they had not had much experience with the sort of injury I had.

Good luck next week in your procedure; good luck to you!

Ureter Injury

What you have now is a nephrostomy tube. It's implanted in your kidney to keep the kidney inflated and working while you heal enough for the additional surgery.

You don't recognize me because I'm an old fistula sister. You may want to check an old thread called vaginal urination.

http://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/sho...threadid=83946

Also you may want to do a search for my old posts. I did several detailed ones, including one the night I came home from the hospital after my ureter was reimplanted in the bladder. Of course, everything I posted was my experience, and yours may be very different.

Oh yeah, I am among the truly lucky, I managed to develop a ventral hernia following the reimplantation which had to be repaired surgically, and now 2 1/2 years after the original hysterctomy I'm looking for a new urologist since I suddenly seem to have developed no bladder control at all. I can't wait for the testing to confirm that its another fistula

Best of luck

Dear Readit,

I'm another old fistula surviver. HEY ARIEL!!! We went through all this together a couple of years ago.

My fistula was in the ureter, devascularized by the surgeon and ended up with a hole in it. After they finally figured out where the hole was, I ended up with a stent for quite a number of weeks. The hole healed with the urine being diverted by the stent.

Now I'm 2 years out and never give it a second thought. Time does heal these things.

Do you have a really good urologist that has done these before?

I hope your surgery goes swimmingly, successfully, and with as little discomfort as possible.

Thank You both (Ariels and MaryJulia) for your information
I am three and half week post op and are finally after 9 week starting to feel normal. I can shower by my self and I can drive not for long but I can do it. The best part is the battle looks good. My last IVP test showed all is well now I return in 3 months which is huge for me because I have been visiting my urologist or male gyn (LOL) every week for 10 week now. I do have a very good urologist that has worked very closely with me since we found the injury my problem is did you return to your GYN or find a new one. I really like my gyn and trust him but the bill are pilling and I am not sure who is going to pay them. I feel stuck between my moral and value and the good old american way if you understand that. thanks again for your kind words.

Dear Readit,

I went back to my gyn. He was super during the entire time-went to every procedure with me including the surgeries. He had never had a fistula happen in 18 years of practice. HOWEVER, the gyn practice didn't absorb the expenses, my insurance company did. I did get free Vivelle dot samples for as long as I used them. My primary care MD is my general practitioner so I don't even ever see my gyn.

Glad your case is working out so well.

Julia
