Am worried

My dr. did an ultra sound on me & said that the cyst I have on my ovaries are not canceriouse...Both ovaries are covered but she said no signs of cancer..I stay scared all the time tho..I don't know if it is because my mom is dying of cancer so I am more I dont know...But what worries me is my periods sometimes will stop 7 then some months will go all month... At times I will start having sharp pains in my lower stomach & then will start bleeding & passing blood clots..I called my doctor & asked her about this because I stay terrified of getting cancer but she said it was all the yuck stuff in me coming out & that to be patient.. I am scheduled to go back & see her in March to decide a good date for my hysterectomy......My question is has anyone else heard of anyone doing this & it not be cancer at all?...Again I may be overly sensitive because of my mom having lung cancer but I mean if it did show any signs of cancer then she wouldnt be putting my surgery off so long would she?....I stay scared & worried & that is no way to live espcially with 2 small kids..

Ovarian cysts are common and from what I understand most of the time they are not cancerous.....however if you are in pain and having problems with your period why wait til March to go back to the doctor....if you are not satisified with the answers you are getting from your doctor then seek another opinion.

Have you talked to your doctor about your concerns regarding cancer??? Did she/he take any other tests??? CA125 blood test???

She said no she hadn't done that test because usually she has to suspect cancer at least some & at this point she does not because I have no lisions & I dont have any mass.....She is saying that because of my bleeding that my cyst are busting & reabsorbing into my body & coming out & that is a good thing..That usually thos who do not bleed have the most to worry about.. And at this point she isn't worried at all about cancer..Like I said it may just be me overly worried because of my mom...The reason she is waiting so long is because I am on a diet because I am a larger woman & she said the surgery would go better if I was to loose some weight..but if push comes to shove then we will go ahead with it..I am just scared of this turning into cancer.....But she seems to think all is ok....They're was not sports or anything on my cycst when she showed me the pic & I guess my bad cramping is them busting I dont know....I ams orry if I seem to rattle on...

I am so sorry you are having to go thru all of this.

But, you need to remember that your Dr. seems certain that this is not cancerous. She is the expert, and if she had any reason to suspect cancer, I would guess she would do surgery right away.

I know it's hard not to suspect cancer, especially when a close family member has it, but I think you need to concentrate on the positive news that the Dr. has given you.

Maple syrup,
I'm sorry to hear about your mom. It must be a very difficult time for you, no wonder why you are so worried!
YES! Life can be VERY scary sometimes. OH yeah, I will definetly agree to that.

I see that your doctor is pretty sure that you do not have a cancerous condition.... but You aren't scheduled to see the doctor again til March? I'll tell you what...if it were me and I was that worried (and I know I would be, too) I'd be either trying to get an earlier appointment with her, or be seeking a second opinion as soon as possible. Best scenario, get an appointment with a gynecological oncologist to put your mind at ease. Please let us know what happens.

God bless,
K9
