Anxiety Attacks/Nightmares
Hi Ladies - has anyone experienced nightmares or anxiety attacks after their hyst? Mine was in March - TAH - I'm 43 so got bumped into surgical menopause. Lots of symptoms - doc put me on lowest premarin dose and ambien at night to help me sleep. I'm finding that on the nights that I don't take the ambien I'm having ridiculous nightmares and waking up in the middle of having an anxiety attack. Never had these experiences before (and would truly like them to stop!). Suggestions?

I am so sorry you are having all that going on at night when you're trying to sleep!
Please call your doctor and tell them what you are experiencing. It could be related to your medication or something else.
Also what does the information sheet from the pharmacist say about Ambien and side effects? Those sheets have a lot of good information on them about the medication and possible side effects.
Let us know what the doctor says, as others are on that medication also.
Take care and I hope you get some good soon!

Anxiety Attacks/Nightmares
I've been having anxiety and insomnia since my surgery. I went to the library and got some relaxation tapes (relaxing music with guided meditation narration) and play them at night; they help a lot. I also googled "guided relaxation scripts" and found lots of scripts on the Net. I tape recorded myself reading them, and use that tape at night too.

Anxiety Attacks/Nightmares
I had my Supracervical TAH 4 weeks ago. I cannot fall asleep unless it is after 2 am and then I wake up 3 hours later. I am so tired all day, but unable to sleep also. I don't know what's going on.

Anxiety Attacks/Nightmares
Hi,
I haven't had these problems, but my sister did. To solve the anxiety attacks she had to work closely with her dr. to get her hormones where they should be. It took awhile, but she is fine now, no attacks and no other drugs. Hoope this helps.

Anxiety Attacks/Nightmares
I had weird dreams first week home from hospital - would wake up shaking - these quit when I quit the pain meds and I was also advised that all the pain meds I had in hospital probably played a part as well takes a while to get this stuff out of your system I guess. Sleeping for me has been a real challenge, 1mo post and still have not slept a full nite through, this seems to be a big complaint on site - hope you get your figured out, I dont know what it will be like when I go back to work - zooombie woman I can see me now!!

Anxiety Attacks/Nightmares
Hi
I thought I was going mad, when I got home I also had very vivid detailed almost nightmarish dreams. I woke up a couple of nights shaking. I was told it could be the anesetic working its way out of your body, up to six weeks
I am 4 weeks PO and less dreams now but waking up a 4am every morning, I hope it gets better

nightmares and sleep disorders
Of course it could be anything, but if you go up to the box on the heading that says More Hyster Sisters, get the drop down box, go to Hormone Article Resources, and click on that, then click on go.
You will find a lot of resources about hormones and what surgical menopause might do. Some still have their ovaries, so they might not have these symptoms, but it makes for good reading and good information. The one I refer to a LOT is the one titled Too Little Too Much, down near the bottom of the list.
Here's to a Good Night's Sleep, with sweet dreams!

Anxiety Attacks/Nightmares
Di,
I am 3 months post-op, and I too have experiened and am experiencing anxiety attacks. Never had them before I got sick and ended up on medication to get me through the surgery and my recovery. I am on Buspar and was on Xanax. My doctor explained that sometimes anxiety attacks occur as your body is trying to fight off an infection, or when it is working over time to heal you. That is why the majority of them happen at night when your body is trying to relax. I was told my would lessen as I recovered, and they have, but if I overdo then I end up having a bad nights sleep and anxiety. I try to balance my days activities. As for the nightmares, it is funny that the medications they give us for anxiety and sleep have common side effects of vivid dreams, restlessness and sleeplessness . . .makes no sense to me!!! Try and relax and get a good nights sleep, your not alone in what you are experiencing and it will get better. Good Luck! Sharon
