Is this too rude, what do you think?

Well hears my idea and I want to know if it would be rude to my doctor....I had the Hida scan to check the gallbladder and doc said it was normal....this doctor said before I took this test "I know it will be normal, and I will not be eating crow"
whatever.... i know, he's kinda weird....anyway I think the Hida scan is normal at a score of 40 (not positive)
I am thinking what if I got a borderline functioning gallbladder and he just said it was "normal"?
He did not tell me the "number" at what my gallbladder is functioning at......so would it be rude for me to call his office on Monday and request either a copy of the test or just ask "What number is my gallbladder functioning at?"
I know I am dwelling on this subject but I am in pain and all signs point to the gallbladder and I want some relief. Do you think I would tick my doctor off by questioning the results?

Here's an idea. Call his office-talk to the person in charge of medical records, and ask for a copy of your lab and/or x-ray reports, including the Hida scan. You have a right to those things, although sometimes they ask a small fee. My doc's office medical records person helped me word the written request so that there wouldn't be a fee-I think it said I needed the reports for further doctor's care in the future.

At any rate, the request usually doesn't even involve the doctor the records department or office person does it.

It sounds like you are still in pain, and don't feel you are getting what you need from your doctor. Even if it is within a normal range, Please consider a 2nd and a 3rd opinion if needed. Sometimes a fresh eye, or a different perspective can help a diagnosis.

Here is to hoping you find the answers you need soon.

Hi Sunshine,
Let me ask you this. You go to get your hair done, she says OH I HAVE THE PERFECT STYLE FOR YOU!! What do you say???? Is it rude? Do you go ahead and let her have her way?

I ask my doctor most of the times to see my reports. They are his property but you have every right to a copy!! And ask what the numbers mean! It is your body, your scan, your gall bladder. Dont be intimidated, if she/he gets upset with your questions, maybe the dr isnt the right one for you!! My doctors all take time to allow me to ask questions. If they cannot answer them due to time constraints, they ask me to come back. And that is very seldom....

Take care and hopefully you get rid of your gallbladder before you get really sick. Trust me, I know all about it. I did TIME (hospital) last year for eating fries and gravy, my fave food. I think one plate put me in for 3 days, and I missed all the good food at my hubbys bday cuz of it.

Hugs

suggestion

Around here what I would do is call the doctor's office and ask to speak to his nurse. Tell her you are calling in to get the results of your test...can she look in the chart and tell you what is says.

Once she tells you on the phone, ask for a copy of it to be mailed to you. She may need you to sign a release form in order to get a copy, but have her drop the form in the mail and send it back.

This is standard procedure around here and I work in health care. No, it's not "rude". It's your legal right as a patient.

Call the Dr.'s office first thing Monday. If your office is anything like mine chances are it will be his nurse calling you back. You shouldn't feel uncomfortable asking questions about your health. I think of myself sometimes like a car. I hear a little rattle and I think something is wrong I know if I wait too long that I will have to pay more cuz the problem got worse. Same with my body, if I feel like something is wrong I call and talk to my Dr. don't take chances with your health just go in and ask or call and ask you have the right to know.

you ladies are so right, it is my right to know and I will call as soon as they open on Monday. I was just thinking that my doctor would take it like I didn't believe him or something....but really I am being stupid for even thinking about his "feelings" being hurt...thanks for setting me straight, I really need to speak up for myself to get this thing taken care of

It's not rude those are your medical records, it's your body. I ask for every report there is and i even asked for the office notes when i went to see the specialist concerning the pelvic pain i was having. i even got my MRI film and sent them to my aunt (she's an OB/GYN) because i thought the radiologist was wrong. You'll probably have to sign a release. If you don't want to contact the doctor and ask the hospital where you had the test done, they should also have a report. Just ask for the med. records dept. Have you ever seen the Seinfeld where Elaine's records say she is difficult and she can't get anyone to see her, or give her the records. I picture that being me. Truth is if i hadn't sent those films to my aunt; my OB/GYN would have never know how huge my uterus was and how many fibroids I had. The radiologist was not very descriptive on my report, it just said "a markedly enlarged uterus with multiple fibroids". After I told my doctor that my aunt reviewed them, she(my doc) made the radiologist go over the film and found out exactly what was up. otherwise I would still be waiting. 16 week uterus 301 grams and so many fibroids the couldn't count them all.

I'm so sorry. . .

that you are still going on with this. I had a doc once in a nearby town, that made me a copy of everything, it was so nice.

I sure hope you figure this out soon. I finally figured out what mine was. My back was out. 4 days after my pains started (12 days post op) so I went to a female chiropractor, and it did feel better for a few hours, but then it started hurting worse than ever. Well, when I was 4 weeks post op called our male chiropractor in town. Gosh, I've been to him before, and he was a little intimidated pushing on me, but I assured him that I have no hysterectomy pain, just the pain in my gut that I can't shake. It's been since last Thursday - and I'm sooooo much better. I wanna kick myself that it was that - and I was on the right track 2 weeks before that! Well, I don't know if you're open to chiropractors or not, but I'm a believer now. I'm gonna go back Tuesday when his office opens again (holiday weekend) and get re-aligned again. After laying around as much as I did, it just felt so good.

Just a thought, and I"m in no way saying that this IS what it is, just a suggestion....thank goodness I figured it out, cuz I could easily have been a depressed person really fast not getting the answers that made me feel better!

Let us know what you do - with the doc! But you DO have the right to a copy - or at least the # that it is!

Hi Lisa I was going to PM you today to see how you were feeling. I am so happy you are not having the pain anymore and figured out what it was that's great
I have scoliosis (minor curve in my spine) and my family doctor said I should not go to a chiropractor because it could cause more damage. I don't know if maybe my family doc just doesn't care for chiropractors, but he kind of scared me saying that.
I used to go when I was in my 20's and I remember it really felt great.
I will keep ya posted on what happens with this stuff ~ TC talk to you soon

Hi there!

Oh man, I'm sorry to hear about that. Wonder - are you able to go for a message or something like that? I really think that from so much laying around - and of course not the bed, usually a couch which is NOT the best for laying so much.

I was having tons of hip pain that lasted forever, and was planning on going to the chirpractor for it AGAIN, but a friend told me that she went for a message - and it did WAY more than anyone did - by breaking up the "junk" I've never had a message, but then I heard my friend's daughter talking that it has saved her career. She is a beautician - and her arm would just go numb. That's not good when you NEED them. But that it hurts at first, but then there really are "toxins" (don't know if that's the word THEY would use, but like poisons in your system) that once you break them up, and flush your system with WATER, no cokes and all that.....that it really really works! Well, now that I've had my hysterectomy - I realized a week ago, my hip is fine now - guessing that's reallky what my pain was! BUT just a thought since you can't have them "pop" your back, wondering if a message (if they know that you have the condition and can be gentle with you) maybe it could help. Gosh, I'm so sorry that you are still in so much pain. I just can't imagine anymore - or any longer pain that my 3 weeks of it!

Keep us posted too - please - on what you find out - from doc and if you decide any other approach. Oh, when I was trying to figure mine out - and right after my ultrasound on gallbladder, my stepmom was telling me that pancreas symptoms very often mislead the doctors to look at the gall bladder. I don't know anything about that, but a thought! ????? Let us know! please!!!!! I'll be praying for you!
Lisa
