Ovaries left and menopause?
Hi and thank you so much to everyone posting on this website! It has been a great help and comfort to me. I’ve gained so much knowledge since finding it 2 weeks ago! It is my new favorite website! :-)
I had my ultrasound today. Fibroids are getting bigger, 10 week size uterus, 1 polyp and one cyst on left ovary. The left ovary cyst is normal he said and it surprised me that there was nothing on my right ovary since most of my pain is on the right side. And so now begins the shopping for comfy PJs and freezable casseroles!
After considering that I have endo and the fibroids, and have already done Lupron 4 years ago, have had a tubal ligation, we agreed that a SAH would be best. He said he’d rather do that so he can look at my ovaries and see if they look okay. He says he wouldn’t be able to do that with a Lap hysterectomy. He does not like to remove cervix and will make every attempt to leave it.
A question – I know it is possible that you can go into menopause even if ovaries are left intact, but has that happened to anyone here? I’ve read that once the blood supply is cut off, the ovaries *may* stop producing hormones. My DR said if that happens, HRT can be an option for symptoms but that it rarely happens that they stop producing after a hyst. He said it is much easier to give HRT to a woman after a hyst than a woman who has not had a hyst. Anyone been given a differing opinion?

Ovaries left and menopause?
Hi there, In my finding it is fairy common for the ovaries to stop producing after a hysterectomy, have read many thread about this. What I have learned, about myself is that I started haveing pms, and cysts about the same time in life, which are both symptoms of low progestrone. Now I had my tubes tied at 19yrs old, and several yrs later I started having these problems. Since you produce the prog. to protect the uterus during the whole egg thing, then now its not getting the egg....... I didn't know this then, I wish I did. I've had cyst removed from my breast, wrist 2x's, and ovaries. All the doc.s I have been to over the years for female problems never clued anything into my having a tubel at such any early age. Yet after learning all I have about hormones and the body, I can see a big corrolation to this, and the problems I was experiencing. One doc. that did a laproscopic surgery, because of an ovarian cyst, didn't remove my left ovary (which was getting the cycts) because she said the rt. one was shucken and half way through menopause. Now why she never mentioned progestrone to me then is weird and she asst. in my hyster. also. I feel like I could have avoided a lot of problems and possably this surgery, if I would have learned a long time ago the things I know now... My advice is to start educating yourself about hormones and the way they can effect your life...KIM

Ovaries left and menopause?
Hello,
I was just told yesterday by a friend, that after a hyster , if you keep your ovaries, the ovaries could and do a lot , shut down after 5 years. So then you have to get on HRT. I just had my hyster and did not keep my ovaries. I am on HRT now. My friend had her hyster a week before me and did keep her ovaries and her doctor told her that. So I guess it all depends on who you ask. Best of luck to you.
Lots of s
Samantha
