How to deal w/the comments from co-workers post op

Was wonder if anyone had any creative thoughts on how to handle the comments I am sure to get when returning to work? We all know one in our life, the one who makes the (so they think) funny comment. I realize alot of this is from not knowing what to say but I dread a couple certain people I know I will have to deal with when I return - just want to be prepared so I am not caught off guard. There was a gal who worked on my team who went out for Hyst a couple a years ago and I swear anything she did wrong was blamed on the Hyst ("She's just not able to handle things since her surgery") believe me she was not doing anything wrong was just a couple of power hungry gals who were out to get her - and did, she was let go after 10 yrs service and was an excellent employee missed by many - and the worst part these same gals are on my team, need some advise, thanks girls !!

9-10 TAH was able to keep RO - best thing that ever happened to me I am feeling better each day!!!

I am not back to work yet, but when asked why I was going to be out....I did tell some people I was having "my house gutted". Sort of true, my physical house was gutted!!

Tell them it's not your hysterectomy to blame, it's your out of control hormones! And then pretend to cry or start screaming!
That will stop them in their tracks!!

Do the people at work already know why you have been gone? If not and they ask where you have been , simply say "I was dealing with some health issues" and leave it at that. It is no one business if you do not want to share all the/your personal info.
If they are already aware of the reason why you were gone and ask or say anything, I'd tell them my surgery went well and I am feeling fine and leave it at that.

If you give them nothing, they have nothing to feed off of.
Unfortunatley we all have nosey busy bodies at work who feed off others pain and misfortune.
I feel some people are better off ignored and do not require a response.
Best wishes

Thanks for the replys gals I am expected to return to work end of next week and yes everyone thanks to the grapevine knows why I am out - not that I care, as long as a select few keep their comments to themselfs, if you know what I mean. Just wanting my transision back to work to be as smooth as my recovery has been - enough stress goes on at work without having to walk in to a couple of back stabbers - hate to say that but hey its the truth, anyways you guys are always so informative and always manage to make me laugh as well - thanks again.

I would tell them-

That more people are killed each year by a co-worker that had a hysterectomy. LOL
I told everyone I was being hollowed out like a pumpkin and that at Halloween I was going to insert a candle and glow!!
Humour will defuse a lot of problems.Come up with some snappy answers to fire back at them.

I've commented more than once on how nice it is not to have PMS anymore...and told the person being an idjit that they should try it. Then I chuckled and walked away.

It's a sad state of affairs when you have to don a suit of armor against your co-workers. Don't let them get you upset because it will play into their game if that's what they're doing. Just keep calm and keep smiling. The best revenge is to live well and be happy.

Grouchy you win the daily prize

You made me laugh so much. I love humor when it comes to the crazy situations life puts us in. And this is definately a serious one, but a little over the edge.

We are not any different than someone who had their appendix out. Do they get questioned? Heavens no, but because we are women with hormones we get a bad name.

I go back to work in a month, and just got a lovely call from my co-worker who said things are going ok, but we all miss you. And I felt good that I know what I do helps the dept.

Many in my office have already had a hysterectomy, so my support will be high. But I truely feel for those who don't have that when they return.

Hold your head high hystersisters!

I can't take credit for this one...I read it on this site somewhere...but when talking to someone on the phone post-op:

Comment: "You are sounding good"
Princess Answer: "They didn't operate on my vocal cords"

The comments I'm getting from people that bother me are "you're so young"....gee, thanks...like I didn't feel good enough already!

At least now, I can blame everything on my hormones....
