What is rectocele?

Dear Ladyblues,
I had one and my understanding of it was that it is a hernia so to speak of the rectal wall. It makes it protrude or push into the vaginal wall. My dr showed me on a picture that this area provides support for a lot of other things. Sorry for my lack of technical information there, but I couldn't remember exactly what all is above there.
They can be caused by vaginal deliveries or strong pushing brought on by constipation-that type of thing. I think they are fairly common as we age too.
Others may have more info.

Have a good day, Rita TVH with bladder sling and rectocele repair

still confused

Does a retocele happen before hysterectomy, and it repaired at the time of surgery, or does this sometimes happen as a result of surgery?

either

It can be fixed at surgery, or in my case, it happened after surgery.

What is rectocele?

hello
I am almost 6 months post op and was just diagnosed with it last week. I thought it was brought on by straining from bad hemerrhoids, but was told by my other surgeon that they are not bad at all. Now I have no idea what caused it. I had no vaginal births, which is what usually causes them.
As the other sisters have said it is a hernia so to speak that bulges into the vaginal canal and makes it difficult to have a BM.It can make it painful to have sex and feel pressure and heaviness in the pelvic area.
I will just live with mine and hope it doesn't get any worst.

Peggy
