Callaway Golf honors Ovarian Cancer Research
Just in time for September-
National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month!
Hello,
Earlier this year, Callaway Golf, through its Callaway Golf Foundation, announced a plan to raise awareness of and funds for fighting ovarian cancer:
The Callaway Golf Foundation has donated $1 million to the Entertainment Industry Foundation’s Women’s Cancer Programs to create the Callaway Golf Foundation Women's Cancer Initiative. This donation will fast-track breakthrough treatments and tests at leading cancer institutions nationwide to beat the disease.
Actress Eva Longoria signed on as "ambassador" for the program, filming a series of public service announcements.
Now Callaway has announced another fund-raising effort for the Women's Cancer Initiative, this one giving golfers a chance to own limited-edition and specially marked Callaway golf clubs and equipment:
The Callaway Golf Company has launched a new line of products to benefit ovarian cancer research, just in time for Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in September. Aimed at raising awareness and funds for ovarian cancer, the second leading and most deadly gynecologic cancer, Callaway Golf has designed a limited-edition line of teal FT-i drivers, golf balls, towels and hats that will be available beginning September 1, 2007 at sporting goods stores nationwide.
Only 1,000 of the teal FT-i drivers (pictured above) will be produced. Fifteen-percent of the net from these products, up to $200,000, will be donated by Callaway. The 1,000 drivers, each one individually numbered, will retail for $875 each. Specially marked Callaway golf balls with teal markings will sell for $35 per dozen; hats, $15; and towels, $25.

Denial of Payment by Insurance Companies
Hi, All:
A number of you have posted recently about your insurance companies denying payment for certain tests or aspects of your treatment. I came across this article in yesterday's New York Times which provides some useful information on how to effectively deal with both outright denials as well as low payments by insurers:

Interesting article
I am subscribed to BMJ and receive updated articles and found this one interesting to share:
Higher Risk Remains 25 Years After Treatment of Cervical Neoplasia
Women treated for grade 3 cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN3) are at increased risk for cervical or vaginal cancers up to 25 years later, reports a study published online in BMJ.
Researchers collected data from Swedish national registries on women who had been diagnosed with and treated for CIN3 between 1958 and 2000. Compared with other Swedish women, those with earlier CIN3 diagnoses had an incidence ratio for invasive cervical cancer of 2.3, and the more recent the diagnosis, the higher the risk (those treated in 1991-2000 had almost twice the risk as those treated in 1958-1970). In addition, the risk increase was accelerated among women aged 50 or older at CIN3 diagnosis.
Risks for vaginal cancer were also elevated, but did not show the worsening historical trend that cervical cancers did.
The authors say patients treated for CIN3 should be offered cytologic screening "at regular intervals, preferably for at least 25 years."
Glad to share and hope you found it to be as interesting as I.

Gynecologic Cancer Awareness, Fundraising Opportunities, Special Links
In my search for cervical cancer support, I found this wonderful website www.hopie.org that gave me warm fuzzies.
Its a website that sells silk scarves, for any support reason. There are hearts, flowers, clouds or stars and it comes with a permanent pen, for friends and family to write messages of love, support and encouragement. Maybe there is a hystersister that needs your love or maybe you need the love.
