my turn to vent....and i mean REALLY vent

All along I have been scheduled for my 6 wk post-op appt. today. Two weeks ago, I had a problem and had to go in--the dr. was very thorough--so when i left, i asked, "do you still want me to come in for the previously scheduled 6 week appt.?" I was out at his front desk and even my husband heard them say yes.

So, i dutifully go in there this morning and they don't know why I am there. They don't have me scheduled. I reminded them that I ASKED and that they said yes, "keep your appointment." But then they just cancelled it and did not tell me.

Now, I am not all that upset that i didn't have to stick my feet up in the stirrups--spread my legs and get examined, BUT I AM REALLY IRRITATED because i had a list of questions, which i was now...not able to ask. They clearly had no time for me.

I am feeling like they were great before the surgery, but really lacking in post-op care. He barely wanted to give me meds and all he told me not to do was "no heavy lifting--no soaking." You gals were all warned about reaching, bending exercise--etc. And now i feel it's like thanks for the opportunity to bill your insurance--now leave.

I really wanted to know about my gas i wake up with. if these little twingy things I am still feeling are normal--when will they stop? You said you couldn't find my left ovary last time---well, where did it go? Did I have anything like endo in me when you were in there--or was it truly just the fibroid/enlarged uterus problem? Plus questions about sleep and can i start walking again? AND I COULDN'T ASK ANY OF THEM. The last thing they said was, "ok, see you in a year."

Would it be too weird to find a new dr. now and ask him/her those questions even though they weren't my surgeon?

I'm irritated. Am i out of line? Am i over reacting?

Maybe you can ask these questions over the phone, with either the Doctor, or a nurse? I would call the office and let them know that you have many unanswered questions and need a call back to complete YOUR side of the six week check up. Give them the list of questions so when the doctor calls back, he has the time set aside to go over each answer thoroughly.

hi northwestlady--

very wise advice. my sister suggested calling and making a new appointment--but, i swear i got the distinct feeling that they just don't have time for me. I really felt like i was getting the "brush-off." But, you are probably right---that would probably be a wise thing to do.

I definitely agree, call the DR office. The surgeon released me from him when I went at my 10 day check up. So does that mean my family DR takes over now? I go to him next Thur. for 6 week check. I felt the surgeon was in a hurry to get rid of me, he made his money, so ? I can relate to how your feeling.

I suggest you call the doctor and ask to speak to his nurse run it by her how you need to ask these questions. You are still under his care and they need to assit you in the right way. If you get nervouse just remember you are on the phone not infront of them and they can't see you. Good luck!

I would call and speak with the doc, its possible he doesn't even know the office didn't schedule you. The reason I say this is because my doc/surgeon is really good and always wants me to come back I am still under her care even though I am 7 months post op and when I leave the exam room she tells me to make my next appointment with the girls up front. In her office the girls are very unorganized they one time scheduled me for a 10:00 apt and my dh heard that also, and then when I got there they didn't even have me scheduled for the right time.

Also, for my pre-op I happen to call the hospital to see why they hadn't scheduled my pre-op yet and was told that the office didn't even call in my surgery(Doctor didn't know this) I called the doc spoke with her and she got right on her office staff. If I were you I wouldn't change docs yet, its possible he doesn't even know they didn't schedule you, alot of time the doc says he will see you but someone else is the one doing the actual scheduling.

You have questions? It's your doctor's responsibility to answer them. If s/he doesn't, ask for the head of the department. Anxiety affects healing.

In college I fired a gyno by handing him back his speculum. Don't let them think you work for them. They have the knowledge, you have the power.

Get that doc on the phone!

Sorry that this happened. I would call and speak with the ARNP advise that you have questions. Should the RN not have the time she can call you back. Or even ask to go into her voicemail. I feel the same way about the insurance. I go on Wed. for my 2 week post, and I need more pain meds. I have this feeling that the DR. is not going to grant my wish. Call your DR and get the information you request. Wishes for your recovery. Take care.
