itching!

This is the first time I've been able to post on this site, and I'm going hog wild!

Most of the surgi-tape has fallen off my oh-so-lovely vertical incision -- and now the whole area ITCHES like crazy.

Is there any good stuff I can be rubbing on the area and the incision to help alleviate itching and to discourage heavy scar formation?

thanks

Before you apply anything to your incision (other than soap and water) please contact you doctor first. After my incision was healed I applied Vit E lotion to it, but that was after it was fully healed. Again check with your doctor before you apply anything to your incision.

God Bless and continued healing

itching!

I had a very severe allergic reactions on each of my incision sites from the steri strips.

After my LAVH they put steri-strips on each of my 4 incision sites. Within a couple hours after surgery I was having a major allergic reaction on each site. (red, raw, blistered, weeping fluid). I was put on IV antibiotics and steroid medications to stop the reaction. At home I was told to alternate between Neosporin and Benadryl cream until the areas dried up. I was given oral Prednisone to and antibiotics to take for a week. I also take Zyrtec for allergies and continued to take that too. It took about 3 weeks for the sites to clear up. I did not have any permanant scarring from this reaction. Be sure to check with your doctor before you put anything on your incision.

Make sure all of your doctors know about this allergic reaction so it gets documented in all of your medical charts. Each time you have an allergic reaction it can get worse and become potentially dangerous.

I have gone through extensive allergy testing and I have a severe allergy to latex which is used in many adhesive products. My doctor has advised me to wear a Medic Alert bracelet in case of future medical emergencies.

Allergic reactions can be extremely dangerous - if you develop any breathing problems or swelling you need to go to the ER immediately. I hope that you are feeling much better soon!

itching!

I used Arnica ointment from the first day and my incision is almost completely disappeared. I am 6 weeks post op and I really think the Arnica helped. You can get it at health food stores.
