surgery soon - lots of ????

OK, I've gone from a laproscopic BSO with possible TAH on next Monday with no overnight stay to a BSO, possible TAH, sling/Burch for cystocele and vag repair for rectocele on Tuesday - at least one night in the "castle"!
Great docs (gyn/onc suggested I see uro/gyn and get everything done at once - I had no idea that there were prolapses and that something could be done!) with great teams. And bless them for getting this done quickly so I just have one surgery....although it does make me wonder if I should plan on the TAH - even if it means an abdominal incision for sure (it's already a possibility).

However, with all the tests for the second doc, I have virtually no time to get things together for after surgery I (due to uro/gyn repairs) won't be able to drive for 4 weeks or lift, push, etc. anything much for 12 weeks! Will have some help, but my DH, DD and puppy have no concept of what life will be like for a while!

Anyway, The Questions:

What do I need to have around the house for postop?
Has anyone had all of this done at once?
Do you think that adding the TAH for certain will be worse than if I wait on that? Current plan is for to decide once he is in...
What do those of you who are on the other side of surgery think is most important to have done at home preop - so that I don't go crazy afterwards.

Hope this makes sense. Not much rest and (my last!) PMDD starting up! It is so helpful to read all of your posts - thanks very much to all...

Check out the PreOp Hints and Articles (click here) which has lists of questions for your DR, previous discussions about topics such as whether to keep the ovaries and/or cervix, suggestions of things to take to the hospital with you, and lots more!

Also the PostOp Articles (click here) has lots of good advice about your recovery.

Things to have at home: stock up on easy to prepare food, frozen entrees, maybe cook ahead and freeze some casseroles; stock up on household supplies.

Just to give you some ideas:
Jell-O
Gatorade
Lots of juice,
Yogurt
A shower stool
Thank you cards
a body pillow
heating pad with 2 hr auto cutoff
Popsicles to stave off the thirst.
Have plenty of no-preparation foods on hand, like fruit, soup, cereal, snack bars, etc.

Comfortable clothes to wear. Men’s pajamas are very comfortable, because the large, drawstring waists come up well above the incision, and the button-up tops didn’t have to go over the head. You may want to have large, “granny-panties” in a size or two large than you normally wear (you will be swollen and sore!).

I'm sure others will add their suggestions also!

Best wishes.
