post hysterectomy bleeding

this is my first contact with hystersister its great to know this site is exists im hoping someone has had the same experience as me and can answer my question. I had an emergency hysterectomy 16 years ago due to my uterus bursting during child birth. They only took my uterus and left my overies. The problem is that ever since I have had menstrual bleeding every month. This was 16 years ago. The doctors examined me 14 years ago and told me that there was no reason for this and that it wont happen any more but it has continued for all these years and i have never had an explanation for this. Is there anyone that has had the same experience and what explanation was given to you

It's called a mini-period and about 5% of women who have had a hysterectomy and kept their ovaries get them.

What's great is that 16 years later your ovaries are still working! That's such encouraging news for those of us who kept ours.

Did they leave your cervix? Sometimes a small amount of endometrial tissue is left in the stump of the uterus (the topside of the cervix) and it continues to bleed once a month. It's possible, I believe, to have it cauterized in some fashion. I'm still not sure if I have a mini-period. I've had bleeding three times since my surgery 13 weeks ago and they've all coincided with where my cycle could have been. But it could still be coincidence.

I hope that helps. Take care.

In answer to your question if I kept my cervix the answer is no. I am now 44 years old and fortunately with no sign of menopause. So there is hope .
