Anyone ever have a Ureter Stent ?????

I had a LAVH/BSO done Nov. 30th. and I am having bladder leakage. I go into the hospital tomorrow as an outpatient to have a ureter stent put in for about 6 wks. I was wondering if anyone has ever had one in, and if it hurts. I heard they take them out in the Dr.'s office, and I am curious about that also. Also if there are any restrictions while its in. If anyone knows of any information about this, please let me know. Thanks!

Anyone ever have a Ureter Stent ?????

Hi Julie. I had a kidney stone removed several years ago and a stent was inserted in my ureter. It was done during the surgery and I was under general anesthesia. I believe it was done to stretch the ureter or urethra as mine is rather narrow and crooked. In fact, I think I may have to have one after my TAH scheduled for later this month because the problem didn't go away.

I had it during an inpatient stay so I was in bed most of the time. It felt very much like having a catheter.

One word of caution... be careful not to accidently pull on it. I did just that forgetting that it was there. I had pulled it halfway out. The result was an uncontrolled constant stream of urine. I remember calling the nurse and she told me it would have to wait till morning. I was wetting everything in sight and demanded something done. She eventually called the doctor and took it out.

Hope this helped some.

Anyone ever have a Ureter Stent ?????

Hi
You must be having a urethra stent put in. I had ureter stents put in - those are in the tubes that lead from the kidneys to the bladder. They stay in and if taken out you have to be put to sleep. I will have mine forever. I also have a urethra stent that is going to be permanent. If you have a catheter afterwards - if you move it fast it will vibrate on the stent and be a little painful.
Are they putting you to sleep ? Let mer know how it goes.

Anyone ever have a Ureter Stent ?????

Timmerri,
I am having a ureter stent put in. Three weeks after having my hyst. Apparently when the Dr. removed endo. around the base of the ureter ( right before it goes into the bladder) left a week spot. I had (not thinking) lifted my sons mattress, and damaged it more. I started leaking there, and it was coming out vaginally (thru the sittches inside me ). So now, everytime my bladder is full, it leaks over. My Dr. sent me to a urologist, and he is putting me to sleep, and placing a ureter stent in...to stay for 6 weeks-as far as I know--there will be no other stent. He didn't mention a catheter. I had one of those for a week, and when the Dr. seen that wasn't helping, he removed it. (hate catheters) I am hoping that with him putting me to sleep to put it in, he will put me to sleep to take it out...he is hoping while its in, the skin, tissue will grow over the stent...and repair. I haven't been back to work since my hyst. and curious if while the stent is in there for 6 weeks....if he will want me off my feet, or go back to work. I will feel alot better once tomorrow comes and goes, i think im just scared of the unknown. Thanks!

Anyone ever have a Ureter Stent ?????

I am pretty sure I had one put in at the time of my surgery. I remember the gyn telling me that my urologist would be doing that part of my surgery. I just figured it was there to stay(if I have one). I go to the urologist Friday Jan. 5 so I will know more then.
Will maybe be able to tell you more then...
