who's cooking a turkey? (HA)

Hi ladies

well i'm four weeks post-op and feeling pretty good, but to be honest, i don't know if i'm up to doing a traditional Thanksgiving this year. The cleaning, shopping and cooking are exhausting even in the best of times and although i think the turkey dinner is the simplest to make, i'm seriously considering making reservations this year. And the thought of Xmas -- shopping, cleaning, tree, etc. etc. etc.....just blows my mind.

what's everyone else's take on the holidays this year?

For the first time in many years it will just be my husband, our three boys and myself for Thanksgiving and I am so excited! This year has just been nuts....make that year and a half....my husband had major back surgery a year and a half ago, my youngest son had his tonsils out in July of this year and now my surgery on 10/29. With church commitments and too many other things, we have just been on overdrive for too long. I am looking forward to a day of food, football, and most of all my family all at home for the entire day!!!

Well, I'm going to do the traditional Thanksgiving, with the help of 3 DD's, but the thought of Christmas totally overwhelms me at this point. In the last 2 weeks the stores here have gone totally nuts with the Christmas decorations and it's making me crazy! I'm just trying not to think about it right now and taking it one day at a time. Things WILL get done!

I'm not post op yet...so I'm making a big early Thanksgiving day dinner tomorrow for my family...but for the real Thanksgiving day I am ordering dinner from the grocery store near us...my dh will pick it up (pre-cooked) and my dd's will warm it up. The things we have to do post-op!!! My mom is 8 weeks post-op and she didn't want to do the "big meal" thing either!

I ordered a complete Thanksgiving dinner from my grocery store. Their deli food is excellent and there will only be 4 of us. I'm making a few family traditional dishes and will spend quality time with family without the hassel. I'm completely healthy enough to cook the dinner, I just don't want to!! Now, I'm really looking forward to good movies, board games, food someone else cooked and very little mess. This was also very inexpensive! - Christmas is another issue!

I actually already bought a new christmas tree. My old one you had to put each branch in by itself. The one I just got is one piece and has fiber optics. all you have to do is push down the branches and wah-lah - instant tree! I do not even plan on putting on anymore lights - it is pretty as it is. (also considering no ornimates, just a tree topper! )

Havent decided about thanksgiving yet - but thinking of having it catered.

There is NO WAY I am cooking a turkey this year!

Ok, to be honest, I have to admit, there is no way I would cook a turkey ANY year! I got food poisoning from turkey when I was in high school...right after Thanksgiving... so a few years ago, I thought, why do I make this when I hate it? And my family doesn't care? So, I started fixing a standing rib roast and Yorkshire pudding...yum!

I will probably make the roast and pudding this year. My son in law is a chef and will help a lot. I won't clean, and I will make my husband do the shopping with me. It won't be as fancy as some years, but we will still be thankful for all the blessings bestowed on us over the past year!

The best Thanksgiving dinner I ever had was a cup of Top Ramen eaten by a campfire in the San Rafael Wilderness on day 1 of our 4 day backpack trip.

Fooey. No Thanksgiving backpack trip this year.

There won't be many family for Thanksgiving this year unfortunately, but I ordered a full dinner from Marie Calendar's. Pick it up and warm up!! I'm getting around pretty good at 5 weeks post op but not sure I will be ready to face the crowds so internet shopping is going to be real popular.
Take it easy and go simple!
