weight gain & exercise

Over the last 3 years I went from being a couch potato wearing size 18-20 to being pretty OCD about working out 6 days a week and wearing a size 8-10. I was reading posts and came across the one about not getting sick before surgery which is something I really worry about because I don't know if I could mentally deal with it being delayed (schedulced 11-22) because I caught a cold. So my question is on 4 of the days I swim at an indoor pool for an hour and until recently it was warm in Houston and no big deal leaving wet. A chill came over us this week and yesterday when I swam I did shower and dry my hair before I left but now I'm wondering if going swimming in a cold pool might be putting me at risk for a cold. It takes all of the energy I can muster to swim but it does so much for me mentally that I'm afraid I'll be a basket case if I don't. Also when I asked my doctor about resuming swimming after SAH he said he would look at my incision at my 2 week check up and if it looked good it would be OK, he also said I could drive after 5 days--unreasonable or realistic?

I don't have any idea about the swimming..But as for the driving my GYN said it depends on how long I am on pain meds after surgery..so you may have to "wait and see". GOOD LUCK to you.

Yes, it did get chilly here lately (finally ). I live just east of Houston

I don't think that you catch colds by being cold. I believe that it's a virus. However, being cold or stressed might make you a bit more susceptible to catching something. I know that stress does it to me. I think that if you're concerned, maybe a call to your dr might help. He/she should be able to answer that question best.

I was released for driving after 10 days but didn't feel comfortable with it for a few more days.

Best wishes.

swimming and driving

My doctor totally surprised me w. the lack of things I'm NOT to do...I've talked to many others who've had a hysterectomy who warned me not to overdo and she basically said try things and if I feel more pain or overly tired, don't do it. she DID say don't drive for 2 wks though.

She told me swimming was fine for me (I will have abdominal, not vaginal)
