Thanksgiving question

I'm having a TAH on 11-15. 10 days before Thanksgiving. Just wondering if I should make any plans for travel or do you think I can make a small dinner by then? Was anyone doing any cooking by 10 days after? Or did you feel like riding in the car a short distance? I 've got some stuff in the freezer my DH can defrost just in case that's all I can manage.

Thanksgiving question

Hi!

Everyone heals differently, 10 days out for me was last Friday. I was feeling pretty good. I rode to the Dr (an hour + away) at 8 days out with little discomfort. On Sunday, 12 days out I went grocery shopping and on Monday, paid for it. I felt worse on Monday and Tuesday of this week than since right after release from the hospital. So.... I guess I am saying, don't overdo, and sometimes you don't know you have overdone until the next day.

I still got tired very easily, so be careful about that. As for cooking, I did some light cooking, but really wasn't up for anything elaborate. Do you have a store that delivers ready made Thanksgiving dinners? We have a deli here that will cater your whole Thanksgiving dinner... and it is not too expensive. That might be a possibility.

Good Luck!

Michele

Thanksgiving question

Thanks Michele! I've thought of getting a ready made dinner from the local deli. Just might end up doing that. I love to cook and I know if I can walk to the kitchen I'll be making something unless we get invited out. Rita

Thanksgiving question

I was up short trips (not me driving) by 10 days post op. If you have your meal at home, beware of the turkey . It will weigh more than you are probably allowed to lift. Lifting it in or out of the oven will not be a good thing for you. Have DH do that for you.
Take care! Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving question

Hi JRT,
I had my surgery on Sept 21 and our Thanksgiving was I think on October 13. I made the stuffing and stuffed the bird. DS washed the bird and did all the turkey lifting, and DH put it in and took it out of the oven. I was able to pull it out on the rack to baste it. IMHO, if I had been 10 days, I would have looked into buying a ready stuffed bird, and getting what I could get ready before. I took all day to do the yams, potatoes, and veggies. I would sit, do what I could, then lay down. Get up and do some more....

If we had a deli here, I would have way more enjoyed that, but I figured it out and it seemed to work.....I would sit down with hubby and see what he is willing to do to help. I laid it on the table, you guys want turkey, you are gonna be doing the work.....The worst part was I forgot the stupid turkey in the fridge and had to throw 3/4 of it out....

Hugs
Kat

Thanksgiving question

Hi,
I went to a wedding 16 days after my surgery. It was an hour drive(someone else driving) each way, about an hour for the service, making it 3 hours that I was away from home. While I was happy to be out, and glad to be at my friend's wedding, I was soooooo tired after the experience. If you can spend Thanksgiving somewhere not too far from home, where you can feel free to relax, then go for it. Hope your Thanksgiving is wonderful. Carol

Thanksgiving question

Today is my day 10 and I feel GREAT. But do I want to make a Thanksgiving day meal - NO WAY!! I don't even want to ride in the car for more than 30 min. I would plan on staying close to home and relaxing. I'm not doing Thanksgiving this year - I have turned the kitchen over to DH and he is thrilled! We live overseas so ordering in the meal is not really an option.

Thanksgiving question

Thanksgiving will be 16 days recoop time for me. I usually have this dinner at my house for my parents, siblings, hubby, and 5 girls. But no way!

Out of the blue my mom invited us to the condo. Only a 10 minute drive for me. I was planning on sitting at home and have the hubby take the kids to his parents while I ate a turkey sandwich. But this is way better. I can crash on the couch or in a bed if I need to rest at all! And still be with my family on the holiday like usual.
